Cook the tater tots according to the directions on the package. Adjust the quantity depending on the size of your crowd. Each toothpick will fit 2 tater tots.
After the tater tots have cooked thoroughly and are golden brown, let them cool for at least 5 minutes. Using the toothpicks, add two tots per skewer. Place the skewers on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cheese and bacon bits.
Place the sheet in the oven and broil for about 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
Sprinkle with green onions and serve with ranch dressing or your choice of dipping sauce.
