WELL, WE OFFICIALLY POSTPONED OUR WEDDING

WE OFFICIALLY POSTPONED OUR WEDDING - Erin Aschow & Tony Perry

This post has been kind of a long time coming. But I put off talking about it because it’s been an emotional experience. We actually made the decision to change our wedding date a few months ago. It wasn’t an easy call to make, but at the end of the day it makes sense and had to happen.

2020 has been emotional for everyone. It’s not a normal year. Everyone’s lives have been affected by coronavirus. I mean, we’re literally still pretty much completely self confined and it’s halfway through the year. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that we all have each other. I’m lucky enough to have the most amazing fiancé (someday husband) to go through this rollercoaster of a year with.

IT’S OFFICIAL, WE DEFINITELY POSTPONED OUR WEDDING.

Just writing that feels like a punch to the gut. And I’ve processed it all for months. It doesn’t change the fact that we were supposed to be getting married in November 2020. And now, we’re not. It was a really difficult decision. BUT… we decided to postpone our wedding.

I consider myself a fairly mellow bride (aka bridechilla). But it’s emotional. And I’m totally ok admitting that and sharing what’s going on.

Tony & I got engaged almost exactly a year ago in Mexico. As shocked as I was that he pulled off a flight to Cabo with a ring in his pocket, I always knew we would end up getting married. I mean, hello we’ve been together for 7 years and are basically already married. We’ve always known we wanted to get married in Cabo because that’s where we “had our first date” and go back every year to celebrate. It’s our happy place.

We made the trip to Cabo, picked a venue and set a date: November 6, 2020. We found the most amazing wedding planners (Del Cabo Weddings) and started the whole planning process.

When the coronavirus pandemic started, our wedding planning was one of the first things I started to stress out about. Initially I thought we would only have to reschedule our trip back to Mexico to plan the wedding (pick out food, flowers, decor, etc). But as time went on and things progressed, we realized that postponing the wedding would be the best decision.

First and foremost, we were concerned our friends and family. We’re asking our favorite people to make a trip to another country – which is a huge deal on it’s own. Not only do we not know whether or not it’s going to be safe to travel in November or if there will still be travel restrictions, but we don’t want to put that pressure on people.

It’s an emotional time for so many reasons and I don’t want anyone to feel scared or stressed out. The pandemic alone is overwhelming. There is so much fear and uncertainty surrounding everything.

So rather than change our dream wedding – we opted to put it off. We still want to have our Mexico celebration. It’s something really special and important to us. We’ve got our entire lives ahead of us, so waiting another year really isn’t that big of a deal (especially when you look at the big picture).

The only thing we have any control over right now (and in life in general) is how we react to things. We feel confident in our decision to postpone our Cabo wedding weekend for the health, peace of mind & understanding of everyone we love.

So there you have it. Same weekend, new year. We’re literally getting married the same exact weekend, just a year later. November 5, 2021 – here we come! Our highest priority is making sure everyone around us is healthy and happy.

One bonus point, that means you guys get an extra year of engagement and wedding posts from me! I’m sure I’ll dive deeper into the whole wedding postponement process, sending change the dates & all the highs and lows of being a Corona bride.

But for now, I’m going to go sit in my backyard. Tony & Doug are waiting for me in our inflatable pool. And that’s really all that matters.
