How to Decorate With Black and White Christmas Decor
Over the years, our Christmas decor has evolved. But one thing has stayed the same, a lack of color! I know our goth glam, rock & roll holiday decor is a little unconventional, but I absolutely love it! So I thought Iβd share some tips on how to decorate with black and white Christmas decor!
Black and White Christmas Decor
There are actually a few ways you can add a little edge to your Christmas decor. If you want to see the current version of our Christmas tree and decor, check out my Nightmare Before Christmas Tree post!
I also have a full list of black & white Christmas decor finds on Amazon.
Pick Out A Christmas Tree
Weβve had the same faux Christmas tree for almost ten years. We bought a pre-lit Christmas tree and I love that it has multi function lights! You have the option to choose whether you want white or multi-color lights & can switch back and forth! I love that it has variations in the branches & is really easy to put toghether.
The first thing you need to do is pick out the right tree for your home. Take the size & space it will take into consideration. I love real trees, but I love the convenience of being able set our faux tree up. It’s a lot easier to clean up and you don’t have to worry about it making a mess! I also feel like it’s more cost effective because you don’t have to buy a new tree every year!
Add Christmas Tree Lights
The next thing you need to do is buy Christmas tree lights. If your tree came pre-lit, you’ll just want to buy extra lights for other parts of the house. I recommend buying lights that can switch between color & white, that way you can always change the look.
You can see the difference the color of the lights makes! For a more fun & eclectic tree, choose colorful lights. For a chic, edgy, more punk rock tree, stick with clear or warm white lights.
If you plan on adding more lights to the outside of your house or anywhere else inside, don’t forget to measure your areas to buy enough lights!
Pick out a Christmas Tree Skirt
I got our sequin plaid Christmas tree skirt from CB2 a few years ago. It’s one of my favorite Christmas decorations because I feel like it fits with the punk rock aesthetic! I found this similar buffalo plaid tree skirt from Amazon.
Add Christmas Tree Ornaments
Here’s where the magic happens! There are so many fun black and white ornament options. I recommend looking on Amazon. They have a ton of really unique options that are reasonably priced. This is one of my favorite sets of black & white ornament assortments.
Add the Finishing Touches
I added some black and white striped ribbon! I really like how it turned out, it kind of reminds me of a Tim Burton Movie. I took the spool of ribbon, starting at the top of the tree and wrapped it around. The ribbon is wired, making it easier place on branches and weave in and out.
There are also some really fun black beaded tree garland options. For a fun option thatβs a little more glam, you can even use old school tinsel for a silver sparkly finish.
Don’t forget the star on top of your tree! Target has a ton of fun options! We have this one, I love that itβs black and mirrored glass – which matches a lot of our other home decor.
Other Punk Rock Christmas Decorations
Decorate Your Coffee Table
I had a lot of fun decorating our coffee table this year! I took a simple square tray and filled it with leftover garland, ribbon, pine cones, LED trees & a candle. I like using pine scented candles because they make the house smell like a Christmas tree, even when you have a fake one!
I did the same thing throughout the house. Adding candles, garland & twinkle lights to our countertops, shelves & bar area.
Hang Your Christmas Stockings
We don’t have a fireplace mantle, so I got creative and used our banister to hang our Christmas tree stockings! Placing our stocking holders on the side of the banister worked perfectly!
I found our punk rock Christmas stockings on Etsy! How cute is the skull print one!? Both the black Christmas tree stocking & skull stocking have faux fur lining on top. Definitely add a glam rock element to our decor!
Put a Christmas Wreath on Your Door
No Christmas decor is complete without a wreath on your door! I love this faux flocked wreath we got from Target. I prefer fake wreaths because our house gets a lot of direct sunlight. I’ve found that real wreaths end up dying and drying out really fast! Sometimes Iβll add some black & white striped ribbon or ornaments to it as well!
You can also do a fun DIY black skull wreath too!
Add a Few Finishing Touches
I also added some fun, festive pillows to our couch. The black faux fur pillows are definitely my favorite and I plan on keeping them year round! I also really love the pop of color from the emerald green plush blankets.
Another tip for updating your tree: wrapping paper! I got a ton of striped, snake print & buffalo plaid wrapping paper. I think it’s fun to add a little ‘extra’ by using a contrasting glitter paper or ribbon. There are surprisingly tons of black and white christmas wrapping paper options!
I’ve been dreaming of a black and white Christmas, but doubt we’ll be getting any snow in San Diego! I may have to resort to turning the AC on and bundling up by the βfireβ!
So grab your favorite mug, pour yourself some Hot Cocoa and throw on my favorite Punk Rock Christmas Music to get in the holiday spirit!Β You can also find the FULL playlist with even more songs on Spotify! I couldn’t pick a Christmas album, so I made a playlist with some of my favorite punk bands! What’s your favorite Christmas song?
