HOME FITNESS TIPS: How to workout at home
Let’s talk about one of my favorite topics, FITNESS! Surprise, surprise, I don’t live off of ice cream and cheeseburgers. Another fun fact, I also exercise almost every day. Working out is a huge part of my life. Both physically and emotionally. Staying fit is really important to my overall long term health. And the act of working out is a major game changer for me when dealing with stress and anxiety.
So, how can you create a fitness plan, stay in shape and workout at home? You don’t need to hit the gym, own any fancy workout equipment or be an olympic athlete to workout at home.
Home Fitness Tips
Since launching my new “Virtual Happy Hour” Instagram Live segment, I’ve shared how important it is for us to stay active, keep communicating & trying to integrate our normal routines into our “stay at home” life. One thing I think is really important is being able to hang out with our friends. So I’ve been streaming happy hour sessions with different guests. The goal is for each guest to share a fun and easy cocktail or recipe that you can make with ingredients that you have on hand. I make the recipe at my house while we’re streaming, showing any modifications I’ve made (in case I don’t have the exact ingredients).
This week, I also did a virtual happy hour featuring a 22 minute workout! I had my friend (and favorite spin instructor) Krystin Burton join me and guide us through a quick sweat session. No fancy equipment needed, just body weight! She’s a music master and created our 22 minute sweat sesh to an awesome playlist. For me, having good music is a major motivator. It keeps things interesting and honestly helps me stay distracted! Not to mention, it makes it feel less like work and more like fun.
Since I can’t go to my normal spin classes at Spark Cycle, this is the next best thing. Getting to do a fun workout with friends! If you missed out live workout, you can still do it at home on your own. Or, FaceTime some of your friends and do it together!

At Home Fitness Tips
Set up a Designated Fitness Space
You can create your own at home “mini gym” with limited materials. Here are some of my top at home gym equipment items you can get on Amazon that won’t break the bank. Just because you’re working out at home doesn’t mean you can’t create a little space to stay motivated. I love using resistance bands and body weight.
Stream Online HOME Workouts
You can stream so many online workouts, just like the one I posted. But literally any fitness level, style or type of workout. Finding workouts you actually enjoy is the best way to stay motivated. I’ll list a few of my favorites here:
Mix It up
Try new things! Don’t over do one body part. If you do upper body exercises one day, try lower body or cardio the next. Work out different muscle groups. I also like to alternate between high intensity
and low impact workouts. You can also check with local gyms to see if they’re streaming any fitness classes.
Put On Workout Clothes
So you’ve been living in sweats. Switch it up and put on some workout clothes. Seriously, it will change your outlook and make you feel more motivated. I also feel way more motivated when I’m wearing workout clothes that I actually like. I know we’re all trying to save money, so if you’re looking for a couple of staple fitness apparel finds – I’m linking some Amazon finds that are really reasonably priced below.
