GLAMPING GUIDE: CAVA ROBLES resort IN PASO ROBLES CALIFORNIA
our travel plans definitely shifted this year. normally we’re jumping around to different cities and countries all year. for our first 2020 adventure, tony, doug & i decided to take a road trip up the coast of california and go visit paso robles! keep reading for all of the detail on our trip and a glamping guide for cava robles resort!
GLAMPING GUIDE: CAVA ROBLES RESORT
if you follow me on instagram you probably saw the first part of our road trip, where we stopped in ventura for a night. Then, drove north a few hours and stayed for a long weekend at cava robles resort in paso robles.
my new friends at campspot reached out recently to promote all of their dog friendly glamping, camping & RV stay options. so we decided it was a great way for us to get away for some R&R, but still stay socially distant & safe.
what’s the difference between cava robles and other resorts?
Cava robles is part of the sun rv resorts family of destinations. before our trip, i didn’t really know what to expect from an rv resort vacation. i assumed it was just a bunch of old people with rv’s.
i’ve spend a lot of time “glamping” with tony on tour. traveling on a tour bus is a lot like traveling in an rv. and we’ve stayed at our fair share of rv resorts throughout the country. but none compare to cava robles. by a landslide.
cava robles was designed around nature. so you don’t feel like you’re in some random parking lot. everywhere you look – the entire area was strategically designed to be inspired by the natural setting in paso robles.
whether you’re in a cottage or staying in an rv, every site was built for relaxation. every site has luxury accommodations and amenities. making it a prime destination for rv or cabin glamping in california.
The resort is located in the Paso Robles wine region, right near the Pacific coast. just like other 5 star resorts, Cava Robles has tons of amenities, including pools, spas, fire pits, a wellness center, dog parks, wine tasting, outdoor movies, full service bar & restaurant.
glamping at cava robles
I LOVE a good glamping spot: you get the best of camping (adventure + the outdoors) with the best of modern technology (electricity, a bathroom + running water). At cava robles you have the option to check into one of their cabins or an rv site.
Upon arrival, you check in at the welcome center. the system has been updated a bit due to covid precautions, so it’s a little different than your standard check in. they had a folder waiting for us with a map of the resort, information on amenities, contact numbers, wifi info, food & drink menus, etc. they also had travel kits waiting for us with hand sanitizer, face masks & cleaning wipes (which i thought was a really cool touch).
the cabins are located throughout the resort & easy to find with the map you’re given. our private yard area came equipped with a fire pit, propane grill, large outdoor table, an outdoor couch & lounge chairs.
more details on our cabin & ways to stay below…
tuscany rental at cava robles
our first reaction (after our jaws dropped) when we walked into our “cabin” was that we felt like we could move in!
i can’t speak highly enough about this resort, honestly.
the tuscany rental was next level. beautifully furnished. fully stocked. and nicer than most of the luxury hotel rooms i’ve stayed in.
the one bedroom Tuscany rental has a queen size bed in the bedroom, plus a queen size bed in the overhead loft, and a full size sleeper sofa. you could fit up to 5 guests, but if you’re looking for something smaller, they also have studio chalet rentals.
The kitchen comes stocked with full appliances (stove, oven, refrigerator), plus a microwave, coffee maker, all the cookware you can imagine & dinnerware to serve your food on. it even had a wine fridge (like a really fancy one) with wine & champagne glasses – because it is in the wine country and near so many amazing wineries!
When I opened the refrigerator, I noticed they even gave us artisanal coffee & coffee creamer (even flavored creamers)! there was ice waiting for us in the freezer. and paper towels, soap & garbage bags to keep things tidy.
Other amenities include
- a private bathroom with a full shower. they even provide towels & toiletries.
- heat and air conditioning.
- 2 flat screen cable TV’s (one in the living room & one in the bedroom).
- WiFi access ( i was able to access it everywhere in the resort).
- Outside is a 12-foot covered porch with a couch and a spiral staircase leading to an additional rooftop porch with views of the area,
- a propane grill for outdoor cooking.
- all of the blankets & Linens you need.
other ways to stay
if you have an rv or plan on renting one, there are a few different types of rv sites to choose from.
the elite full Hookup back-in rv sites are the top tier. providing full hookups with 20-,20- or 50-amp electric. they have concrete pads & patios with plenty of room for slide-outs.
they also come with cable & wifi access, a picnic table, free standing fire pit & dog friendly options. no matter what way you choose to stay, you have access to all of the same amenties!
cava robles amenities
- market stocked with snacks, drinks, s’mores kits & other travel supplies – located in the welcome center.
- community center & game room (was not open during covid restrictions).
- farmhouse bistro & bar (right now you can only order food & drinks to go – but can also bring them out to the pool). the staff were amazing here and make amazing food & drinks. they have a full bar & even make their own jello shots! my fave was the spinach dip & burger!
- fitness & wellness center (was not open during covid restrictions).
- two pools & two jacuzzis (jacuzzis were not open due to covid restrictions).
- putting green (tony brough his golf clubs but you can also borrow a putter).
- walking trails.
- bocce ball court
- outdoor pizza oven (was not open during covid restrictions).
- public fire pits & outdoor grills.
- multiple off-leash dog parks (doug loved them)!
- laundry facilities.
- on-site wine tasting.
- golf cart & bike rentals (there is an additional fee for these).
- concierge services.
- wine tours.
- catering services.
know before you go
because travel looks a bit different nowadays, there are a few things to know before you go.
you have to wear a mask! duh. If you’re from california, this isn’t a surprise. but just in case you didn’t know, you do now! they gave us a few disposable masks just in case.
the pool has a schedule. to try to limit the number of guests to keep things safe, they have a pool schedule. basically, pool times are for an hour and a half. then, they close the pool area for a half an hour to clean everything (which made me feel a lot better). if it’s busy, they take reservations & may limit the number of sessions you sign up for. that way everyone gets a chance to swim safely.
there are quite a few things that are off limits right now, but i barely noticed. for example, you can’t use the jacuzzis – My guess is because you can’t distance yourself from people as well in them. they also don’t have all of the games set up. and have restricted access to the gym/wellness center. not a huge surprise. i took a peek through the windows and they look amazing!
you also can’t “eat in” – but can take all of your food & drinks to go. there are tons of outdoor spots you can eat. or, bring your snacks to the pool! you can even walk around with your drinks! just like any other resort. you can also order your food ahead of time & pick it up.
the resort is dog friendly, but make sure you specify a dog friendly spot when you make your reservation!
the resort has Enhanced cleaning and sanitization protocols that have been established with defined cycles and procedures for common areas, high-touch surfaces, vacation rentals, cottages, and cabins.
everything was extremely clean and i felt completely safe in our rental. by far, the cleanest vacation experience i’ve ever had. everyone at the resort was extremely respectful in maintaining space, but it still felt really relaxing.
there are a ton of restaurants nearby, as well as grocery stores. we stopped at the grocery store for food & drinks for the weekend.
we also ordered postmates one of the nights! you can order food for delivery through most food delivery apps because the location is fairly close to town.
normally, we would go out and explore the nearby town, restaurant, attractions, etc. but we decided not to venture out to stay socially distant. and honestly we didn’t need to leave. the resort has everything you could want or need. i’m actually glad we stayed put because it was way more relaxing.
THEY HAVE SUCH A FRIENDLY STAFF, DON’T HESITATE TO ASK FOR HELP WHILE YOU’RE THERE OR BEFORE YOUR VISIT! IT’S THE PERFECT KIND OF SETTING TO RELAX, RECHARGE & GET AWAY FOR A FEW DAYS!
