Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake Mix Bars
These peanut butter bars are soo good on their own, but the individual Ghirardelli squares really take them to the next level!
But, the major hack I use to make these bars so easy and decadent is cake mix! That’s right, a box of cake mix serves as the base of these cookie bars!
I love these tasty peanut butter bars because they’re kind of like a cross between a cookie, a cake & a brownie (or Blondie). Plus, every serving gets an indulgent bite of gooey Ghirardelli chocolate! I used the double chocolate squares, but you can use any flavor combination you want! Chocolate Caramel or even White Chocolate would be amazing!
I also like adding Reese’s Pieces and Chocolate Chips – but you can always modify and use peanut butter chips or even M&Ms!
Ingredients
- Creamy peanut butter
- egg
- Chocolate chips
- Reese’s pieces candy
Directions
- Pre heat your oven to 350°F.
- Line a 13 X 9” dish or baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup peanut of butter and 1 egg with an electric mixer until the batter is smooth. Stir in cake mix until blended well in the large bowl. Stir in Reese’s Pieces & chocolate chips.
- Spread the mix evenly on your baking sheet & bake for 20-25 minutes or until it’s light golden brown. Before the bars cool, press individual Ghirardelli chocolate squares down into the cooked dough.
- Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing!

Ingredients
- 1 BOX YELLOW CAKE MIX
- 1 EGG
- 1 CUP PEANUT BUTTER MELTED
- 1/2 CUP MILK CHOCOLATE CHIPS
- 1/2 CUP REESE’S PIECES CANDY
- 12 GHIRARDELLI CHOCOLATE SQUARES
Instructions
- PREHEAT THE OVEN TO 350F. LINE A 9X13” BAKING SHEET OR DISH WITH PARCHMENT PAPER.
- IN A MEDIUM BOWL, MIX THE CAKE MIX, MELTED PEANUT BUTTER & EGG. I RECOMMEND MICROWAVING THE PEANUT BUTTER FOR 30 SECONDS BEFORE MIXING IT IN.
- STIR IN CHOCOLATE CHIPS & REESE’S PIECES.
- SPREAD THE MIXTURE INTO THE PAN & BAKE FOR 20-25 MINUTES.
- WHILE THE BARS ARE STILL WARM, PRESS INDIVIDUAL GHIRARDELLI SQUARES IN ROWS.
- ALLOW THE BARS TO COOL COMPLETELY BEFORE SLICING!
