halloween decor: how to make a diy gold skeleton

DIY Gold Skeleton + Erin Aschow + Ice Cream & Neon Dreams

thriving right now in diy mode. you guys know i love a good spray paint project. last year after halloween, i went wild at walmart and bought a bunch of decorations at 75% off. including a lifesize skeleton! it looked cool, but i felt like i could take it to the next level. so i decided to make a chic diy gold skeleton!

HOW TO MAKE A DIY GOLD SKELETON

honestly, this diy is super simple. all you need is a skeleton (you don’t need a big guy, you can use a skeleton or pieces of any size) & some gold spray paint!

technically, you can make the skeleton any color you want! i opted for gold because i wanted it to pop and look unique. but you could spray paint your skeleton silver, black, marble patterned, pink or whatever other fun spray paint color you find!

Before you get started, here are links to supplies:

I recommend doing this outside, you don’t want to accidentally get spray paint on anything. not to mention you want to spray paint in a well ventilated area.

i put down a trash bag – but you can use newspaper, an old cardboard box or whatever you’ve got on hand. i also recommend wearing gloves if you don’t want to get spray paint on your hands!

i like using spray paints that have primer in them / are more of an all in one route. that way you don’t have to buy two different spray paints to prime and paint.

Shake the paint can for a few minutes before you get started to mix it all up.

Start by spraying your paint on the back of your skeleton or on a scrap piece of wood or cardboard. This will give you an idea of how the paint will look. It will also give you a chance to test which distance gives you the best effect.

Apply one full coat over the back of your skeleton. then let it dry before flipping it over. Make sure to slowly sweep the paint across the surface from left to right to get an even coat. Keep your hand moving as you spray so you don’t get too much paint on one area.

after both sides have dried, decide whether or not you need to do more coats to achieve the right color / effect.

That’s it! your glittery gold skeleton is ready! paint as many skeletons or skeleton items you want to add to your home halloween decor!
