chic decor idea: DIY Bedazzled Skull

How to Make a Bedazzled Skull + Erin Aschow + Ice Cream & Neon Dreams

You guys know I love a good DIY project. This year, I’ve gone all out on Halloween decorations. I’ve got glittery pumpkins, black pumpkins & marble pumpkins. Overall, we’ve got a very glam, chic aesthetic going on. So I decided to take things to the next level and make my very own DIY bedazzled skull!

It was really easy to make, you just need to have the right supplies! I got everything on Amazon & set up my crafting station while I watched Hocus Pocus.

I’m so in love with it, I think it’s going to have a permanent home on our window all year!

How to Make a DIY Bedazzled Skull

To start, you’ll need a skull to give a glam makeover. I’ve had our marble skull for a few years & bought it at Home Goods. You can use any skull, but if you’re looking for a similar one, here’s another one I found.

Another fun trick is using marble effect spray. You can spray it on just about anything to give it a marble transformation.

I bought a ton of random jewels, pearls and mini disco balls. I opted to go with clear jewels, but you can go with any color combination. Black or red would also be really fun.

To place the jewels, you can either use a hot glue gun or mod podge. I prefer working with mod podge because you have more time to work with the placement and you’re less likely to burn your fingers! E6000 also works really well & bonds to most materials.

I started by placing one of the mini disco balls (I had to cut off the string) in the eye of the skull. Then, slowly worked my way up and down the side of the skulls face,

layering different sizes, shapes & textures of the jewels and pearls. Filling in spots and gaps with smaller gems.

To make my rhinestone skull a little edgier, I added some hot fix style studs. Using hot fix studs is easier because they don’t have the prongs and you can glue them directly on. No need to hot fix, you can just use normal glue.

Make sure you let your skull dry before moving it around. If you want, you can also spray an even layer of Mod Podge gloss sealer to keep everything intact!
