So I’ve made a few different variations of the viral upside down puff pastry that’s all over the internet. But this Hot Dog hack has to be my favorite version yet!

The Viral Upside Down Puff Pastry Hack: Hot Dog Edition

The latest viral food trend everyone is trying is the upside down puff pastry hack. Basically, you start by buying pre made puff pastry dough.

Instead of using cheese, berries or honey for the recipe, we’re going to make a twist on the classic pigs in a blanket. They’re literally os easy to make & so tasty. Perfect for movie night or a grill-less bbq!

Ingredients

  • 1 package of pre-made puff pastry dough (thawed according to package instructions)
  • 4 Hot Dogs
  • 2 tbs melted butter
  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • Optional toppings: relish, ketchup and mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Drizzle a little olive oil on the parchment paper.
  2. Unfold the thawed puff pastry dough. Cut the puff pastry dough into 8 equal-sized rectangles.
  3. Cut your Hot Dogs in half & place them face down on the parchment paper.
  4. Place one rectangle of puff pastry dough on top of each Hot Dog. I like to use a fork to press the edges.
  5. Once all the hot dogs are covered, brush with melted butter.
  6. Bake the Upside Down Puff Pastry Hot Dogs in the preheated oven for approximately 15-18 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown and puffs up.
  7. Once baked, carefully remove the hot dogs from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
  8. Serve your Upside Down Puff Pastry Hot Dogs with your favorite toppings!

You can always get creative with different toppings or even add cheese inside the puff pastry for an extra burst of flavor. If you’re vegetarian, opt for a meatless Hot Dog and if you’re gluten free, use GF puff pastry dough!

The viral puff pastry trend with a summer spin!

Ingredients

  • 1 PACKAGE OF PRE-MADE PUFF PASTRY DOUGH THAWED ACCORDING TO PACKAGE INSTRUCTIONS
  • 4 HOT DOGS
  • 2 TBS MELTED BUTTER
  • 2 TBS OLIVE OIL
  • OPTIONAL TOPPINGS: RELISH KETCHUP AND MUSTARD

Instructions

  • PREHEAT YOUR OVEN TO 400F. LINE A BAKING SHEET WITH PARCHMENT PAPER FOR EASY CLEANUP. DRIZZLE A LITTLE OLIVE OIL ON THE PARCHMENT PAPER.
  • UNFOLD THE THAWED PUFF PASTRY DOUGH. CUT THE PUFF PASTRY DOUGH INTO 8 EQUAL-SIZED RECTANGLES.
  • CUT YOUR HOT DOGS IN HALF & PLACE THEM FACE DOWN ON THE PARCHMENT PAPER.
  • PLACE ONE RECTANGLE OF PUFF PASTRY DOUGH ON TOP OF EACH HOT DOG. I LIKE TO USE A FORK TO PRESS THE EDGES.
  • ONCE ALL THE HOT DOGS ARE COVERED, BRUSH WITH MELTED BUTTER.
  • BAKE THE UPSIDE DOWN PUFF PASTRY HOT DOGS IN THE PREHEATED OVEN FOR APPROXIMATELY 15-18 MINUTES OR UNTIL THE PASTRY TURNS GOLDEN BROWN AND PUFFS UP.
  • ONCE BAKED, CAREFULLY REMOVE THE HOT DOGS FROM THE OVEN AND LET THEM COOL FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE SERVING.
  • SERVE YOUR UPSIDE DOWN PUFF PASTRY HOT DOGS WITH YOUR FAVORITE TOPPINGS!
