The Ultimate Dessert Crunchwrap Recipe
The classic Taco Bell Crunchwrap supreme gets a sweet makeover with this cinnamon sugar, chocolate, strawberry, caramel cookie dessert Crunchwrap recipe!
The Ultimate Dessert Crunchwrap Recipe
Back before TikTok, I shared my at home Crunchwrap Supreme recipe. Who would have thought people loved the idea of making Taco Bell menu items at home so much!
Last week, I randomly had a genius flavor creation idea… what if there was a dessert Crunchwrap!? Obviously, my mission was clear… I set out to make the ultimate dessert crunchwrap recipe!
What is a Crunchwrap
Before we make a dessert version of the Taco Bell favorite, we need to break down the savory ingredients so we can find sweet substitutions.
A Crunchwrap consists of your choice of protein (normally ground beef), Nacho Cheese Sauce, a crunchy tostada, sour cream, lettuce and tomato inside a warm toasted tortilla with a signature six-sided wrap/fold.
What makes the Crunchwrap unique is that there are layers of ingredients above & below a circular tostada shell. The entire thing is made on top of a giant tortilla and the tortilla is folded up and around the circle before being heated and crisped.
Dessert Crunchwrap Ingredients
Let’s break down each layer of the dessert Crunchwrap & the ingredients I chose to use:
- Large Burrito sized Flour Tortilla – this is the same as the savory version.
- Strawberries – I used sliced strawberries tossed in a little sugar for the first layer, instead of beans.
- Stroopwafel Cookie – Instead of a tostada shell, I used a caramel filled stroopwafel cookie.
- Chocolate Squares – Instead of cheese, sour cream, lettuce & tomatoes, I opted for Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Squares.
Rather than heat it up as is, I melted a little butter in a pan to get the tortilla nice and crispy. After it was golden brown & the edges were sealed, I sprinkled a cinnamon sugar mixture on the outside of the tortilla.
To serve, I used some whipped cream for dipping!
How to Assemble a Dessert Crunchwrap
Start by laying your tortilla on a cutting board or clean surface.
Slice a few strawberries & toss them in a little bit of sugar. This helps sweeten them slightly and gives them more of a natural syrup, which helps bind the ingredients.
Place one of your stroopwafel cookies on top of the strawberries.
Then, add a few chocolate squares on top of the cookie. You can also opt for chocolate chips or even white chocolate.
Next, you’ll begin folding the sides of the tortilla up, working around the circle, folding the sides up and overlapping until it’s completely covered. Depending on the size of your Crunchwrap, you may want to add a small circular tortilla to the center. The goal is to completely seal the ingredients in with the tortilla.
Heat a skillet or small pan up on medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter.
Place the Crunchwrap into the pan, seam side down first. This will help seal the tortilla seam. Cook for a couple of minutes or until it starts to brown and flip to cook the other side.
In a small bowl, combine about 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture onto both sides of the tortilla. The sugar will melt into the butter on the tortilla and taste kind of like a Taco Bell cinnamon twist!
Eat as is or serve with whipped cream. It would also taste amazing with a cream cheese ice cream or frosting!
