The Leopard Edit: How to Rock Leopard Print & My Favorite Leopard Print Pieces
It’s no surprise that half of my closet is filled with leopard print pieces. I swear, when I’m 70 I’m going to live in a bedazzled leopard print tracksuit when I’m riding around the retirement community in my golf cart. I’ve always been a fan, but lucky for me (and my closet), leopard print is dominating the fashion world.
Leopard print is definitely the most searched for animal print on the internet and everywhere you look, fashionistas are sporting the pattern. It was also trend at fashion week and I anticipate seeing more of it in Europe! I love that leopard print has made a comeback. Everywhere from casual street style to the runways NYFW.
How to Wear Leopard Print Pieces
So how exactly do you wear leopard print without looking like a 90s nightmare? First of all, a little goes a long way. Even though I’ve seen some fashionistas layering on multiple leopard print pieces, I tend to avoid wearing a head to toe leopard print ensemble.
If you’re hesitant, opt for smaller pieces. Layer a leopard print blouse under your coat, or throw on a leopard print skirt & graphic t-shirt.
I once read that you should treat leopard print like any other black item in your closet. Sounds crazy, I know. But adding it to an outfit instantly makes it look more chic and pulled together.
Pair Leopard Print with Other Exotic Patterns
Remember what I said… pretend it’s neutral. That means you can pair a leopard print piece with another print. I love combining it with pieces that are striped or checked. I love throwing my leopard print coats and dusters over striped or star printed dresses.
Play it Safe with Small Accessories
When in doubt, opt for a small leopard print accessory. Think: a leopard print purse, clutch, hat, scarf, headband or pair of shoes. I’ve gotten the majority of my fun, printed shoes from Steve Madden because they’re super chic & on trend, but fairly inexpensive.
