I get a ton of questions about how I do my hair – and to be honest, I’m pretty lazy! TBH, I only wash my hair like once a week. I live off of dry conditioner and messy ponytails. A lot of the time I do wear it down though. My hair used to be super long & I recently went a little shorter. But my styling tactics have basically stayed the same. I like messy, beachy boho waves. I don’t like overly styled ringlets or using heaps of product. The best part about my little “hair tutorial” is that I use a straightener! That’s right, you only need one  tool to get a ton of different styles!

All Straightener’s Are Not Created Equally

You’re probably like, why does it matter what kind of straightener I have? I bought one for $20 at Target and it seems to be doing the trick? I know, it sounds crazy. A good straightener can end up racking up a few hundred bucks. But cheap straighteners can cause wayyyyy more damage to your hair and won’t last for very long. Buying something legit is worth your investment, not only to protect your hair but to save money in the long run.

I’m obsessed with my Keratin Dual Touch Styler. In a nutshell, it’s a styler that can curl or straighten and offers innovative features that help prevent heat damage. I love that it heats up really quickly & has a long chord too. LumaBella also makes a “Cool Mist” Hair Straightener that’s supposed to help with frizz in case you’ve got wild hair.

How Do I Get That Beach Look?

  1. Prep your hair with a thickening or volumizing mousse before blowdrying. I use Southern Belle from Drybar in my roots before I blow dry.
  2. I use the “twirl-and-pull” method to get that boho, loose curl.
  • I always use Heat Protection Spray before curling or straightening my hair.
  • Hold your iron upside down & vertically.
  • Insert about an inch wide section of your hair between the clamps.
  • Turn the iron away from your face to create the first bend.
  • Then, slide the iron down the section of hair while you twirl the iron away from your face.
  • Repeat until you reach your ends, leaving about an inch at the end straight for a messier look
  • I like to curl all of my hair back, but you can also alternate directions for more volume.
  • Once your entire head is curled, run your fingers through your hair to loosen up the curls.

3. Add a beach spray or texturizing spray. I like Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Spray for texture, separation & body.
