Salted Caramel & Gooey Chocolate Bars
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… or Hanukah, or any holiday you celebrate in winter! Which can only mean one thing in our house, BAKING! The one request I get over and over again is for easy cookies. Meaning, not a million ingredients and steps. Which I totally understand.
I love really intricate, detailed recipes that take hours. But they’re definitely not practical for most people or if you need a last minute dish. The great thing about these Salted Caramel & Gooey Chocolate Bars is that they’re simple! Instead of using a million ingredients, you use a foolproof base: Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix! Awesome, right? You take her handy baking mix and add some other fancy ingredients to take them to the next level!
I know what you’re thinking, greek yogurt? YES! It takes it from sugar cookie consistency to more of a fluffy cake/bar! For the caramel bits, I found mine at Target. For the chocolate layer, I used a Cadbury Caramello Bar I just bought in Europe, but you can use any standard milk chocolate or milk chocolate with caramel.
Ingredients:
– Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
– 1 egg
– 1 stick of butter
– 1/2 cup of greek yogurt (either 0%, 2% or Vanilla)
– 1 tablespoon salt
– Caramel Bits
– Your choice of chocolate (I used a Cadbury Caramello Bar)
Step One: Mix the Sugar Cookie Mix, Egg, Butter, Greek Yogurt, Salt & Caramel Bits. Refrigerate your dough for at least 30 minutes.
Step Two: Separate your dough into two equal portions. I used a 9×9 baking dish & sprayed it with non stick baking spray first. Then, evenly pressed half of the dough into the bottom.
Step Three: Spread out a layer of chocolate. You might want to break it up into smaller pieces, it doesn’t need to be a solid layer.
Step Four: Press the remaining dough on top.
Bake at 350F for 30 – 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serve warm & gooey!
