Punta Mita Mexico Travel Diaries

It’s been a couple of weeks since I got back from Mexico, but it’s taken me a longer than expected to get all of my pictures uploaded. My SD card broke – RIP – and I had to get it fixed to pull the pictures, so annoying. For anyone who follows me on Instagram, you know I went to The Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico for a week with my Dad and sister. I haven’t posted much about my family on here, so I thought it would be a fun way to introduce you to that part of my life! Crazy… I have family, right!?

I flew up to meet them in San Francisco the day before our trip. They both live in Marin County, where I used to live before moving to Southern California. Doug and I packed our bags and got ready for our adventure… that’s right, Doug got a puppy passport! To get to Punta Mita, we had to fly to Puerto Vallarta. It was a quick trip and only took about 3.5 hours. Once we landed, it was about an hour drive North East to our hotel.

Punta Mita is a small fishing village that also has a handful of resorts on Banderas Bay. The beaches have white sand and the water is bright blue, the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation. We stayed at The Four Seasons Punta Mita, a super mellow & tropical resort. It was literally one of the most amazing towns and resorts I’ve ever been to. So amazing that I’m already planning my trip back!

A lot of people asked what was so special about Punta Mita, there are tons of beautiful beach cities to visit around the world. Here are my top 5 reasons to visit Punta Mita again:

Doug Friendly

Ok so this may sounds super extra, but I literally couldn’t believe how dog friendly the hotel was. Not only did they let me bring him, they went above and beyond. They had a dog menu – complete with dog tacos and puppy friendly meatloaf. When we hung out by the beach, they brought Doug his very own cabana & water bowl. Everyone at the hotel loved him and went totally overboard with the accommodations for him. You can even take your pet to the doggy spa or have someone walk them when you’re out exploring.

The Food

Duh. You could have seen this coming. The food was so insanely amazing. We had the breakfast buffet every morning and it was by far my favorite meal of the day. There was a little quesadilla station where you could get customized quesadillas. Mexican hot chocolate & coffee. Waffles, pancakes, french toast, Nutella, Caramel Sauce & all of your break-essert dreams. I had the jalapeΓ±o cheeseburger for lunch 3 days in a row, the perfect spicy afternoon pick me up. For dinner, I loved going to the grill. All of the food was, as you could have guessed, cooked on an open grill. For dessert, there was a churro stand set up by the pool and a gelato shack that had all of the flavors you could dream of.

Tequila Tasting

One of the highlights of the trip was going to the resort’s tequila tasting room. We got to learn about how tequila is made & the differences between different ages & types of agave. It was pretty cool being able to learn more about how the different tequilas taste, how they smell and the flavors they pair well with. At the end, we got to make our own tequila. You mix a personal blend and then they bottle & seal it for you. They track your creation so that if you want to order another bottle, you can call them up and they’ll send you another!

The Pools

The ocean was beautiful, but I’m not a huge fan of swimming in it. I have an insanely irrational fear of fish, so it’s rare that I’ll actually get into the water past my knees. The pools were the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. The main infinity pool looked out over the ocean & had tons of fluffy pool floats to lounge on. The second pool (which was right by our room) was an adult only pool. It was super mellow and a nice spot to relax at the end of the day in a hammock. Did I mention there was a lazy river? Like, the laziest river you can imagine. It was so pretty and felt like you were in the jungle. We grabbed a couple of daiquiris and floated around in the shade, so relaxing.

The Location

Like I mentioned, the Four Seasons Punta Mita is in a secluded little neighborhood near Puerto Vallarta. The resort is on a nature reserve, so you literally feel like you’re hidden in the middle of the jungle, looking out over the ocean. The white sand and lava rock beaches are set against theΒ Sierra Madre Mountains, so you feel kind of like you’re in a scene from Jurassic Park. Except super safe! It’s an awesome spot for snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and surfing.
