Pull Apart Christmas Tree Bread - Erin Perry

There are only a few days left until Christmas and I’m getting in the holiday spirit the best way I know how… cooking up a storm! We’ve had a ton of parties and get togethers over the past few weeks, so I’ve had plenty of opportunities to whip up my favorite holiday appetizers.

One of my favorite types of appetizers comes in the form of bread (heck yes gluten)… stuffed with cheese and other goodness, to form what is referred to as “pull apart bread”! Remember the Jalapeño Popper Stuffed Cheesy Pull Apart Bread I made? There’s really nothing better than bread & cheese, especially when that cheese is melted! Pull apart bread is a really easy, crowd-leasing appetizer because everyone can join in the fun!

This year, I found a really fun idea on Pinterest for cheesy pull apart bread in the shape of a Christmas tree! How festive, right!? Not only is it a great centerpiece for your appetizer spread, but it’s super easy to make and will majorly impress everyone who sees (and eats) it! You can find all of the ingredients at the grocery store, so it’s easy to grab and whip up at the last minute for a Christmas party, Christmas eve or even Christmas dinner. It only takes about 30 minutes to make from start to finish! All of the items are available on Amazon Fresh and Prime Now and too, so you can order them online and have them delivered to your doorstep!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. refrigerated pizza dough
  • egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tablespoon of water)
  • 7 mozzarella sticks
  • 1/4 cup of melted butter
  • 1/2 cup of finely grated Parmesan
  • 1 tablespoon of dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon of dried parsley
  • marinara sauce, warmed (for serving)
  • 1 tablespoon of dried rosemary

Directions

Step One:

Preheat your oven to 450F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step Two:

Cut the mozzarella sticks into 1” pieces and set aside.

Step Three:

On a floured surface, divide the pizza dough into two pieces. Stretch and roll each piece of dough into a long rectangle, then cut the dough into 2” squares.

Step Four:

Wrap a dough square around each piece of mozzarella, forming a tightly sealed ball. Place the dough balls seam-side down on the baking sheet with parchment paper, in the shape of a Christmas tree (they should be touching).

Step Five:

Brush the egg wash on the dough balls and bake until golden brown, for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Step Six:

While your tree is baking, whisk together the melted butter, parmesan cheese and herbs. Brush the melted butter, herb and parmesan cheese mixture on top of the baked pizza balls. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
