My Morning Routine
Sometimes it’s soo hard to get out of bed in the morning. Others I’m totally ready to go and conquer the world. One of my key ingredients for a successful day is following a morning routine.
The best place to start is setting a schedule for yourself. Like literally write it out. When do you need to leave in the morning? Start there and shave a few minutes off to give yourself a little buffer time. From there, work backwards and think about all of the things you need to do and how much time it will take you. Waking up just a little bit earlier to give yourself more time to set a slower paced routine will help set the pace for the rest of your day.
Working out is really important to me, so I do it before work every day. I set my alarm to give myself about an hour before I have to be at the gym. That way I have time to get up, have some coffee and a light breakfast & check my email.
One of the most important things for me is staying off of my phone & the computer for the first 15+ minutes of my day. I set my alarm to songs I like, open the blinds and stretch for a few minutes. Then, brush my teeth and make a coffee.
After I’ve had a chance to kind of “wake up”, I’ll get dressed, feed my dog & get all of my gym stuff ready. After all of that, if I have a few extra minutes, I’ll check my email to see what the day has in store for me when I get home.
I also make myself an easy breakfast. A lot of the time I’ll prep overnight oats or egg muffins for the week. That way I can just pull them out of the fridge and eat them while I check my email.
As I’m getting ready, I like to go through a checklist in my brain of all of my goals for the day. Instead of looking at it as a pile of work and things I have to do, I just try to set some goals and think about the things I’m excited for. Whether it’s an exciting milestone for work or happy hour tacos at the end of the day.
I also make sure that I remind myself of 3 things I’m grateful for before I get in the car every day. It sounds kind of lame, but by thinking of things that make me happy, it changes the way that my brain functions. Think about positive things: you’ll stay in a positive headspace. Start your day thinking negatively: everything will feel negative.
What are some things that you do every morning and are part of your regular routine?
