Metal Monday: Tools for the Beginning Baker

unicorn

Happy Monday! Who wouldn’t want a unicorn to sprinkle awesomeness all over there food? Yes, it’s a real thing and you can use it to shake happiness all over your food.

Before you start reading this blog post, I recommend you sit back with a nice mug of Funfetti Coffee and turn on some nice, soothing jams. It’s Monday, which means we’re all ready for it to be Friday again.

Since it’s Metal Monday, I’m going to recommend something I’m ridiculously obsessed with: BABYMETAL. Their latest video “KARATE” is literally everything. EVERYTHING. If you’re not familiar with the amazingness that is J-POP/METAL, they’re basically a Japanese Pop Group (think adorable little girls in crazy outfits), but with a dark edge & heavy metal in the background. You can see why I’m so obsessed. BABY METAL is basically Me. Cute & Glittery with a Djent vibe.  If you don’t already have their latest album Resistance, just click play below and keep reading. Or watch the whole thing and be prepared to fall in love.

Ok, can we just talk about the bedazzled skull masks for a second? WHERE can I buy them? I would totally put those all over my house.

Anyways, moving on… this past weekend, I was on Martha Stewart trying to figure out a recipe and got so annoyed. I love you Martha, but you make everything look SO easy. And in reality, everything I try to make from your site ends up looking like a total Pinterest fail. Not to mention, I don’t want to buy some fancy tool that I can only use once a year. So, it got me thinking… maybe I should start at square one and do some Revenge Baking 101. Today I’m sharing with you… Tools for the Beginning Baker. Basically, super simple stuff that doesn’t take an aerobatics degree to figure out. They’re also things I use every day.

Baking Tools

  1. KitchenAid Mixer Ok, I know this seems like a small fortune, but it’s worth every penny. I even mash my potatoes in this bad boy. It’s really helpful for mixing cookies, cakes, and so on and so on. Put it at the top of your Christmas list, or look on Craigslist for a deal. Did I mention you can get it in any color you want!?
  2. Baking Sheets & Muffin Tins You can get something cheap from Walmart, but it will definitely start to warp from the heat after a few uses. Not a big deal, but just a heads up!
  3. Parchment Paper Baking Sheets Not only do these save on clean up, they make everything from cookies to bars easy to pop out and cool!
  4. Kitchen Towels I make massive messes. I literally have like 20 towels that pile up in the laundry every time I bake something. Cleanliness is key.
  5. Set of Mixing Bowls Having more than one bowl is clutch. Why? So you don’t have to rinse everything out while you’re in the baking zone. Also, it helps so you can keep all of your liquids and solids separate!
  6. Spatulas & Brush I’m obsessed with this set. Because it’s pink & it’s less than $5 for all 3 pieces!
  7. Apron Ok, how awesome is this KISS Gene Simmons “The Demon” apron? I like to have fun aprons, it keeps things exciting! And it keeps me from demolishing my clothes.
  8. Rolling Pin Not only is this Marble rolling pin super chic, it’s nice & heavy. Which makes rolling dough out WAYYY easier.
  9. Measuring Cups & Spoons Measuring cups & spoons are VITAL for baking. When a recipe says use 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Use EXACTLY 1/4 teaspoon, don’t eyeball it. I am obsessed with this R2D2 set for obvious reasons.

I highly recommend Amazon and Bed Bath & Beyond for stocking up on baking tools. Amazon is great because you can find super cute, cheap stuff. BB&B is great because you can always find a coupon or sale to get a deal on some of the more expensive stuff.

Bake on my friends! I’ll be coming at you with more fun recipes & surprises this week! Now you’ll be ready to go with all of the tricks and tools up your sleeves.
