How to Make DIY Black Glitter Christmas Ornaments
Every year, part of our family tradition is decorating our Christmas tree EXTRA early! Primarily because I am a “content creator” and want to get as much fun, holiday content photographed for deadlines as possible. Every year we have a different theme for our tree and decorations. This year, we went a glam rock direction for our punk rock Christmas decor. Most of our decorations are black, gold or silver. Even our wrapping paper is black!
When we started decorating, I realized a lot of the decorations we already have don’t completely fit the theme. So I decided to try to DIY my way around it!
I always feel like I need a little extra glitter in my life, so I decided to make my very own glittered black ornaments! The coolest part about this DIY is that you can reuse your old ornaments and reinvent them! Technically, you can actually make them any color you want! Whether it’s glitter, shiny or matte! But, for the purpose of this DIY tutorial, we’re going with black glitter! It’s such a fun way to personalize your ornaments & add a splash of glam to your tree!
How to Make DIY Black Glitter Christmas Ornaments
Supplies Needed
- Old Ornaments (I used these round ones from Target)
- Black Glitter Spray Paint
Directions
To get started, set up a work space in a well ventilated area. Just like my DIY Glitter Pumpkins, you’ll want to set up an area outside preferably. I recommend making a workspace on top of newspaper or grass.
I took an old Amazon box and poked holes in it with a pair of scissors, then widened the holes a bit. Forming a base for the ornaments while I spray painted them. I basically just placed the ornaments upside down and pushed the upper area of the ornament (where the hook attaches) through the holes in the box. This kept them from rolling around!
Shake your can of spray paint well before using. Then, holding the can about 1/2 foot to 1 foot away, begin spraying the ornaments with your black glitter spray paint. I recommend spraying an even layer, then letting them dry for about 15 minutes. Then, spraying another layer or two.
if you missed any spots, or the tops of the ornaments didn’t get covered in paint, you can hang them from a tree branch or piece of string outside. Then spray any missed spots.
Let them dry completely before bringing them inside! Use ornament hooks or ribbon to secure the new, glittery black ornaments on your tree!
