Get It Poppin: How To Make Your Own Confetti Poppers

Happy almost New Year! I’ve been sick as a dog this past week and totally behind on all of the holiday festivities. I literally just opened all of my Christmas presents. I took my first adventure outside of the house to get some new years decorations (you know, before everything sells out). Also had to stock up on chicken noodle soup. I stopped at Party City, the craft store & Target and was majorly disappointed in the assortment of decor options. It’s 2017 and all of the decorations look like cheesy stock options from the 90s still. What’s that all about? Not to mention they’re SO overpriced.

The only other options are to order decorations online or make them yourself. If I was on top of my game, I would have ordered stuff about a month ago. But, I’m obviously not one of those people. So it looks like I’m in the DIY boat.

Nothing says “CELEBRATION” like a little confetti. I mean, it literally lingers in your hair and in the nooks and crannies of your house for months after. So it’s really the gift that keeps on giving.

DIY Confetti Poppers

Let’s get this party started! I can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year than with a burst of confetti… and a treat! Most confetti poppers are pretty straight forward. But mine… have candy in them!!! WooHoo!!! My DIY confetti poppers are super easy to make and totally customizable. They’re perfect for a ton of occasions too, not just New Years Eve. They make a fun addition to: Bachelorette Parties, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, 4th of July Festivities, birthday parties and anything else you want to add a little sparkle to!

What You Need

Step One

Remove the lid that came on your push pop containers. Then, slide the “push” part of the pop down so that you can fill it with tinsel and confetti. I like to use the piece of candy to help stuff it down. Make sure not to overfill or it will rip the tissue later.

Depending on the theme of your party, this is where you can get creative! You can use different colors and textures of confetti or shredded tinsel to match the occasion. If it’s a 4th of July party, use red, white and blue tinsel! If it’s a baby shower, use light pink or blue confetti. You can even swap out mini candies for mini toys or other trinkets.

Step Two

Take a small square of tissue paper (you can easily measure how large it needs to be by placing the push pop on top and measuring). Then, tape the edges of the tissue down using scotch tape. This will keep the opening covered.

Step Three

Measure the scrapbook paper using the push pop and cut a piece out that is long enough to wrap it. I recommend using a ruler to make sure it’s straight. Then, tape the paper around the push pop. I used regular scotch tape on the inside. I like using wash tape on the outside.

Just like the confetti, you can customize the paper for your party. I chose New Years inspired colors for mine. But if you go to a craft store, you can find tons of different paper and wash tape options. I think it’s fun to mix and match! You could also customize them for your friends and add their names!

How to Use the Poppers

To use your homemade confetti popper, all you have to do is push up! When you push up, the colorful confetti and candy will break through the tissue paper. It’s that simple and fun!

They’re super easy to make and way cuter than your standard popper. Hope you all have a happy and safe holiday!
