How to be A Hostess with the Most-ess: Backyard Entertaining Edition
Summer is almost here! Sharing some of my top tips for hosting backyard parties and bbq’s. Let’s jump into how to be a hostess with the most-ess: backyard entertaining edition!
Backyard Entertaining Tips
Set the Scene
Transform your outdoor space into an oasis with a few simple additions. Think: fairy lights, lanterns, potted plants, fire pits, lounge chairs, etc. Create cozy seating areas by adding outdoor rugs, cushions and blankets. Add pops of color, flowers and decorative accents that connect your indoor aesthetic & outdoor ambiance.
Refined Refreshments
Keep your friends and family cool and hydrated with refreshing drinks. Set up a self-serve drink station with a variety of options like infused water, mocktails or cocktails and a selection of chilled beverages.
I always recommend having a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options to cater to all preferences. Offer an assortment of fruits as garnishes to add a touch of freshness to each drink!
Get the Grill Going
No summer party is incomplete without food!
I always recommend investing in a grill, even if it’s small and portable. That way you can take advantage of making easy outdoor recipes with less cleanup.
In addition to the entrees you serve up, set up some snacks and appetizers. Be sure to take into consideration the weather & bugs with serving upgrades to protect your food and keep it cool!
Get your guests mingling by setting up interactive food stations that encourage customization and socializing. Create a build-your-own taco or burger bar with different toppings, sauces and condiments.
Or even a DIY s’mores station with various chocolate flavors, graham crackers and marshmallows!
Beat the Heat
Set up shade structures, umbrellas or canopies to keep cool. Take it to the next level with fans, misters or even a an outdoor shower for a quick cooldown.
Don’t forget to keep coolers stocked with ice, chilled drinks and frozen treats like popsicles or ice cream too!
Create Entertainment Zones
You can set up different entertainment zones like a seating area for conversations, a game zone with classic favorites like cornhole or badminton and a relaxed lounge space with comfortable seating for those who prefer to unwind.
Bug-proof Your Space
Don’t let bugs ruin your summer soiree. Use bug repellents like citronella candles, torches and essential oils to keep bugs at bay.
Consider incorporating outdoor fans, as they help deter flying insects. You can also offer bug repellent wipes and sprays to help combat mosquitos.
