Hello Lover: Dulce de Leche stuffed Churro Sticks

Churro Sticks

I used to think that Dulce de leche was just a fancy caramel sauce. BOY WAS I WRONG. The literal translation of it is “Candy made of milk”… aka melt in your mouth deliciousness.

Any time I see Dulce de leche being sold, whether it’s cake, in ice cream, a pudding, or even in a coffee drink… I automatically buy it. It literally turns anything into heaven.

This past month when my Hatchery box showed up, I was pleasantly surprised to see a sample of Chai Spice Dulce. After carefully inspecting it, I determined it tasted like a Gingerbread Cooking drenched in Caramel Sauce. Mmm… should I just eat it straight out of the jar with my fingers? Or show restraint and use it in a recipe?

With a bit of a struggle, I decided to use it in a dessert and share the joy. I wanted to make sure I fulfilled the Chai Spice Dulce’s dessert destiny, so I put a spin on my Mini Pop Tart Recipe and made Dulce filled Churro Sticks. That’s right… easy, cheap & delicious stuffed Churros (that are baked not fried)!

To start, all you need is refrigerated Pie Crust! I cut mine using a ruler into strips, but you can free hand it if you want.

Dough

Then, using a spoon or a knife, spread some of your sauce. I used Chai Spice Dulce, but any Dulce de Leche sauce will work! Then put a second piece of dough on top and seal the edges using a fork.

Churro Assembly

Bake for 15-20 minutes and then dust with cinnamon sugar. I used nonstick butter spray to lighten the recipe up, but you can also use melted butter to brush onto the sticks before shrinking with cinnamon sugar.

Voila! You have Dulce de Leche stuffed Churro Sticks! I served mine warm with a latte… gave it a “Chai Latte” feel. Not to mention it made my coffee taste devious!
