SPOOKY SNACKS: HOW TO MAKE A HALLOWEEN CHARCUTERIE BOARD
It’s spooky season! which means it’s time for halloween themed foods, diy’s, decorations & recipes!
Iβm so excited to share my Halloween charcuterie board with you guys, because really, is there anything better than a beautiful and tasty meat & cheese plate for a mellow movie night at home or a fun halloween party with friends!?
HOW TO MAKE A HALLOWEEN CHARCUTERIE BOARD
So what exactly is a Charcuterie board? The technical definition of charcuterie is βcold cooked meats collectively.β So, you canβt technically call it a charcuterie plate unless has prepared meats like salami or prosciutto.
normally, a charcuterie plate or board has meats, cheeses, nuts & crackers. As well as any other snacks or dips you want to add.
I’ve shared some other fun cheese plate ideas in the past. but am so excited to share my spooky spin on them this year.
charcuterie boards are the perfect appetizer for any party. but also make a great meal for a night at home. i love whipping up a meat & cheese plate for a quiet date night with tony.
to save money, i stock up on ingredients at trader joe’s. they have great deals on meats, cheeses, crackers & condiments.
how to assemble a halloween charcuterie board
- Choose Your Serving Platter
- Add Your Cheeses
- Then add Your Meats
- Fill it in With Olives, Nuts, And snacks
- throw on some crackers
- add some fun Finishing Touches
Choose Your Serving Platter
Start by picking out a serving platter and grab a couple of cheese knives or small serving utensils like spoons and forks. Small plates and cocktail napkins are also helpful!
i like using my butcher block for a small to medium board. you can also cover a table or your countertop with kraft paper for a larger spread.
you can even use an old cutting board!
Add Your Cheeses
I like starting with the cheese when I’m putting my halloween charcuterie board together because it’s easier to arrange other things around it.
when picking cheese out for your board, i recommend mixing different types (hard, soft & crumbly).
i love using brie (as kind of the main event). then adding some other hard cheeses like swiss, asiago or gruyere cut into bite sized pieces. and a third soft option like a goat cheese to balance the flavors out.
you can find tons of options at any grocery store. if you’re putting together a larger charcuterie board, i recommend going to costco!
add your meats
Any type of cured meats are a good idea – but salami is always my go to. you can get thinly sliced options or a whole salami that can be cut into bite sized chunks.
prosciutto is another great option, but it can be a bit pricier. normally, i buy it in a prepackaged container from trader joe’s because it’s a better deal.
When placing meats around the board, I start by putting out several slices of each type and then adding in more at the end to fill in holes.
i like making little flowers out of the salami by folding them to create more texture. you can get creative and fold them, or just stack & fan them.
fill in the blanks
to fill in the gaps, i like using nuts & snack mixes. the key to a well balanced meat and cheese board is making sure you’ve got other snacks to balance out the flavors.
you can also add accent snacks like berries, apples, pickles, olives, figs and honey. i love corn snacks too (skip the candy corn though)!
don’t forget crackers!
i leave the crackers out of the mix until i’m ready to serve. that way nothing gets soggy! you can also put crackers, sliced bread, pretzel sticks, etc., off to the side in a small basket.
finishing touches for the perfect halloween board
don’t forget to add some spooky finishing touches! I added Plastic spiders, skeleton hands & some bones on top. i also put some muslin i bought from amazon out on the table to spice things up a bit.
