5 Tips for Your First Music Festival
If you landed on this page, you’re probably getting ready for your first music festival. You’re in luck, because I know a lot about concerts and festivals – it used to be my job to go to them! I’m sharing 5 of my top tips for making your first music festival a success!
5 Tips for Your First Music Festival
1.Plan Ahead
Before you even set foot on the festival grounds, it’s important to do your research and plan ahead. Look up the festival’s schedule and map out which artists you want to see and at what times. This will help you avoid missing out on your favorite acts and ensure you don’t end up wandering aimlessly.
It’s also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the festival’s rules and regulations, as well as any prohibited items.
I recommend taking a screenshot of set times, festival maps & any ticket confirmation you might need – sometimes the cell service at large events can be bad. That way you won’t have to worry about loading issues.
2. Pack Smart
When it comes to packing for a music festival, less is more. You’ll be spending most of your time on your feet, so it’s important to pack light and only bring the essentials.
Some must-haves include sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, comfortable shoes and a portable phone charger. It’s also a good idea to bring a small backpack or fanny pack to carry your belongings in. Most large events require you use a clear bag now, so be sure to double check the event site.

3. Stay Hydrated
Music festivals can be hot and crowded, so it’s important to stay hydrated throughout the day. Many festivals have water refill stations, so be sure to bring a refillable water bottle to save money and reduce waste.
It’s also a good idea to drink plenty of water before and after the festival to avoid dehydration. I recommend packing a few liquid IV as well, they’re great for helping you get & stay hydrated, you just add them to your water!
4. Dress Comfortably
While it may be tempting to dress to impress at a music festival, comfort should be your top priority. You’ll be spending long hours on your feet, so opt for comfortable shoes and clothing that you can move and dance in. It’s also a good idea to bring layers, as the temperature can fluctuate throughout the day and night.
5. Take Breaks
With so much going on at a music festival, it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget to take breaks. But it’s important to listen to your body and take breaks when needed. Find a shady spot to rest and recharge, or take a break in between sets to grab a snack and hydrate.
A lot of times people want to be front and center, but it can be overwhelming and really hard on your body – regardless of the type of music. I recommend sticking to the sides of the crowd so you have some space and can leave easily.
