The Dreaded Declutter – 10 Questions to Help You Get Rid of Cr*p!
The day is here! It’s time to declutter your space. Generally, I’m a very clean person. I can’t even go to bed knowing there are dirty dishes in the sink. I’m also not much of a collector, except for when it comes to clothes and shoes! When the time comes to clean up and declutter, I start to feel stressed out. I look around and feel overwhelmed and majorly anxious. Clutter can literally make you feel like you’re being smothered. Decluttering can be overwhelming because it’s hard to know where to start. Luckily, I’ve got a ton of tips for decluttering and organizing your stuff!
How To Declutter
Some call it “Spring Cleaning”, but one of my biggest tips to improving your brain space is a quick decluttering session. Not only is it hard to focus when you’re surrounded by a mess or too much “stuff”, it’s hard to change or make positive choices when you’re living in the past and surrounded by too much baggage.
Stop making excuses and clean up your act! Whether it’s you room, your closet, your desk or your purse, spend some time today getting rid of things you don’t need! And when I say get rid of stuff, if it’s garbage toss it, but if not you can totally donate it! You can also sell the stuff you don’t need anymore at thrift stores, or on sites like eBay!
To start, focus on one room
It doesn’t matter where you start, but I like starting with a space that’s less cluttered. That way, it will be fast and you’ll feel more motivated to attack other messes. Then, start small. Focus on a small area. For example, if you’re decluttering your office, start with one of your drawers. Once it’s cleaned out, you can move on to the next area. Focus on one small area at a time until it’s finished, which will help you get the entire job done.
I like to set up 3 bins or bags. The first is for things that you can throw away, the second is to donate and the third is to keep. When you’re finished, throw away and donate/sell what you can. Then, go through your keep pile again and organize it. Try not to second guess your decisions. It’s best if you take your donation bag ASAP so you don’t have time to mull over your decision. It’s best to get it over with and move on.
Benefits Of Organization
This list is almost too long to recap. Here are a few of the main reasons I try to stay organized and declutter my space:
- It reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed.
- Helps me achieve more in less time.
- Gives me a sense of control.
- Reduces my stress.
- Clears my brain of clutter.
- Boosts my energy.
- Actually helps me eat better.
- I end up sleeping more!
