Don’t go bacon my heart… I couldn’t if I tried. Honey, if I get restless. Baby, bacon’s my kind. Flowers are great, but bacon roses are better. True story. I would 110% rather get bacon roses than your standard garden variety. Why? Because you can eat them, duh! Regular roses die, but bacon roses are tasty and won’t go to waste.
At first glance, my bacon bouquet looked like actual roses. They were sitting on the counter and no one noticed they were an edible arrangement! So how exactly do you make the gift that keeps on giving?
Bacon Roses are so easy to make, inexpensive and a great last minute Valentine’s Day present. Whether you’re looking for something fun to give significant other or a fun Galentine’s Day gift for your friends. Keep reading for all of the details on how to make your own bacon roses.
HOW TO MAKE BACON ROSES
I made my bacon roses in my Ninja Foodi – which is basically an all in one air fryer, pressure cooker, slow cooker, steamer. If you don’t have the Ninja Foodi, you can use any air fryer, or your oven. Technically, you could probably even microwave them if you wanted, but I didn’t try it.
I recommend using fake roses for the stems. You could also use real rose stems or just a skewer.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 x pack thick cut bacon
- 1 x bunch fake roses
- toothpicks
Depending on your preference, you could also use turkey bacon or a vegan alternative.
DIRECTIONS
- If you’re using an oven, preheat the oven to 375 F. If you’re using a Ninja Foodi or Air Fryer, no need to preheat.
- To start, rip off the rose bud and flower petals. It helps if you can push it down a bit to reveal the stem so the bacon has something to sit on top of.
- Work with one strip of bacon at a time. Starting at one end, take the bacon and roll it up tightly to make a rosette. Use two toothpicks to skewer the rose together. Repeat with all of the bacon. Don’t worry, they’ll cook into rose shapes!
- If you’re cooking in the oven, place the bacon roses on a wire rack on top of a foil lined baking sheet. If you’re using a Ninja Foodi or air fryer, place them on a wire rack insert.
- If using the oven, bake them for about 45 minutes or until they are cooked through and crispy. Using my Ninja Foodi, I used the air crisp (same as air frying) function for 15 minutes at 375 F.
- Once the roses are cool, remove the toothpicks. Take each rolled up rose and place it onto a stem.
That’s it! You can wrap them into a makeshift bouquet of bacon roses, tie a bow around them, place them in a vase or just go for it and eat them yourself! If you want to get REALLY fancy, sprinkle a little brown sugar on your bacon roses before cooking for a sweet treat!
