DIY: Give Your Vans a Patch Makeover
It seems like all of the cool kids I follow are wearing a ton of cute pieces that are styled with patches. I love how nostalgic the whole patch trend feels. It reminds me of my tricked out girl scout uniform – you better believe I sold the sh*t out of some cookies in my prime. I also still have my denim jacket from high school that I started adding band patches to – which totally wasn’t cool at the time, but I obviously didn’t care.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve stumbled upon some SUPER cute, but super expensive tennies, jackets & skirts — that are CRAZY expensive. Sorry guys, but I can’t justify spending $700 on Gucci sneakers right now. Generally, I don’t like to spend a ton on clothes. Every once in a while I’ll splurge on something “timeless”, but there’s no need to break the bank on trendy pieces.
I grabbed a pair of perforated Vans and got to work! You can find them at DSW on sale right now too! I picked up some patches from Stoney Clover Lane, but you can find a ton of cool ones on Etsy, Urban Outfitters, American Eagle, & Hot Topic.
How To Put Patches On Your Vans
I followed Lisa’s tutorial:
Step One: Placement
Figure out where you want to put your patches.
Step Two: Glue Time!
Put this glue on the center of the patch.
Step Three: Spread the Glue
Use a toothpick to spread the glue to the edges. Make sure it’s a thin layer, or it will spill over the edges.
Step Four: Put Patches On
Put your patches on and let it sit for about a half hour. She made a great suggestion: wrap tape around the shoes to keep the patches in place.
Step Five: Leave to Dry
Leave shoes to dry for two days. Voila! Now I have the perfect pair of travel shoes!
Feeling not so crafty? Here are a few ready to wear options!
