DIY GlamGlow My Little Pony Glitter Face Mask
A few months ago, I was in bed browsing the internet (oh, at around 2 am). I couldn’t fall asleep, so I did the most logical thing I could think of… started online shopping. Obviously, shopping on your phone in the middle of the night when you’re in between the sleep – awake realms is a great idea (not). At the time, stocking up on some makeup and perfume from Sephora seemed like a great idea. When I went to checkout, I needed to spend $4 to get free shipping. So, logically, I bought a $60 face mask.
Fast forward to the following week when my order arrived. I felt majorly stressed by my online splurge. But I’m lazy and don’t like returning things, so I kept the $60 face mask.
The GlamGlow My Little Pony Glitter Mask
Ok, so the face mask I ordered wasn’t just any face mask. It was the GlamGlow My Little Pony Glitter Mask. If you haven’t seen it, it’s basically a peel off face mask that’s filled with glitter and sparkles. Making it a kira kira lovers dream.
My Little Pony was one of my favorite childhood toys. I loved brushing their colorful manes and having them play with my barbies. So I’m going to admit that the mask magically took me back to my childhood. Not to mention I love a good face mask, and peel off masks are my all time fave. I’m pretty sure it’s the most Instagrammable face mask on the market. Unfortunately, it’s f*ing expensive. GlamGlow makes three different colors, or as I like to call them “flavors” because they look like candy and smell like the body sprays I used to use in middle school. I may have spent the big bucks on one package, but there’s no way I can ever justify rebuying or buying the other colors.
Which got me thinking… there’s gotta be a way to get the my little pony effect on the a budget. Right? Right!
DIY Peel Off Glitter Mask
To start, I had to break down the key elements of the mask. It’s part peel off mask, part glitter bomb. The OG glitter mask from GlamGlow is part of their GravityMud line. It’s supposed to help firm your skin and tighten your pores. I didn’t see a HUGE difference in my skin after using it, but to be honest I really only bought it for the glitter. Rather than create a full chemistry lab in my kitchen, I opted to use a cheaper face mask and glitz it up.
What You Need to Make the Glitter Face Mask
I found my peel off face masks from Target. You can also order them online and they’re only $1.99 each. I recommend using 2 of them so that you can have enough to cover your entire face. If you’re hanging out with friends or want to make it in bulk, you can make a giant batch with as many masks as you want.
I found cosmetic glitter on Amazon. The container cost $7.99 and I think you could get at least 10-12 masks out of the entire container. I like the glitter I found because it’s chunky and holographic, with a ton of silver stars, moons, speckles, hexagons & dust. It’s almost identical to the glitter used in the GlamGlow mask. They have a ton of different color options too.
How to Make the Glitter Face Mask
It’s surprisingly SO EASY to make this mask! Grab a small bowl and squeeze out the face mask you bought. Then, mix in some glitter! I sprinkled a couple of tablespoons in, but you can add as much as you want!
The color of my mask was light pink, so it looks a lot like the pink glitter GlamGlow mask! If you want to make it a different color, just add a drop of food coloring! Because it’s a peel off mask, it won’t stain your skin. If you want to make a black one, you can also add a little activated charcoal powder! I used the same activated charcoal powder from my black ice cream recipe and it worked like a charm!
Once it’s mixed up, apply a thin even layer on your skin. I like using a small spatula or brush so that it goes on in an even layer. Let it dry for about 20 minutes and then peel it off! Don’t forget to take some pics and pop them on the gram’ before peeling it off though! It’s literally the cutest DIY I’ve ever whipped up. It’s perfect for your next girls movie night or stay at home spa day! It may not be quite as fancy as the GlamGlow version, but no one will know the difference! So gallop to it and make your own magical face mask!
