DIY GIRL: Faux Druzy Necklaces
I don’t wear a ton of jewelry. Normally I stick with a statement ring and dainty necklace, or statement necklace and dainty ring. I’m always kind of jealous of girls who rock tons of jewels and stacked pieces, but I’m more of a band shirt turned cut of tank and a fun necklace type of gal.
One of my favorite types of jewelry are druzy gemstones. I can’t get enough of the sparkles! The only downside can be the price. Don’t get me wrong, every once in a while I’ll splurge, but for the most part I don’t want to waste a ton of money on something that will likely get lost in the bottom of my purse.
A while back I stumbled upon this super easy DIY Druzy tutorial on I Spy DIY.
You can order a complete kit on Darby Smart, or pick and choose which items you need from the links below. I found most of the items on Amazon, which means they’re not limited to the US (most are also available through Prime). If you want to make silver versions, just search the term and use “Silver” instead of “Gold”. You can also search for different types of chain, pendents, etc.
Here’s what you’ll need
Step One: Cover the inside of your pendant or earring posts with a thin layer of ModPodge. I recommend working on newspaper or paper towels to make cleanup easier. You can also use a small paint brush to spread the glue. If not, just use your finger!
Step Two: Pick a color glitter and sprinkle it on top of the glue. Shake off the extra glitter and let it dry.
Step Three: Spread another layer of glue & sprinkle with glitter.
Step Four: Using the piers from your tool kit, attach the lobster clasp and chain with a jump ring. Measure out your chain depending on how long you want your necklace and cut. Add another jump ring to the pendent and string the chain through. Finish by putting a jump ring at the end of the other side of the chain.
