HOW TO MAKE A CHIC DIY CRYSTAL POPSOCKET PHONE CASE
And we’re back! With another episode of Erin’s Fake HGTV Show! I’m all about sharing easy projects, DIY projects & fashion hacks. I stumbled upon a cute agate popsocket phone case online recently – but it cost like $100. So I decided to figure out how to make it myself & am sharing a super easy & inexpensive way to make your a chic DIY crystal popsocket phone case!
diy CRYSTAL POPSOCKET PHONE CASE
Popsockets are one of the most popular phone accessories. And for good reason, they’re a super convenient way to hold onto your phone. All you have to do is “pop” a popsocket onto your phone or phone case for an instant grip or stand. Making it easier to take photos, chat with friends or watch videos.
What better way to make your popsocket even more “rock solid” than turning it into a giant, shiney, fancy rock!
If you’re wondering what agate is, it’s a translucent type of quartz. It’s a semiprecious stone that comes in a ton of colors. In this case, it’s a small slice of agate.
By adding a slice of agate to a pop socket, it not only offers a secure grip, but makes a majorly chic fashion statement. Whether you want to use it for taking Instagram pics or as a phone stand, it’s such a fun upgrade.
DIY CRYSTAL PHONE CASE SUPPLIES
A SIMPLE PHONE CASE
First things first, you’ll need to find a basic phone case that fits your phone. You can find a ton of inexpensive options in different colors and patterns. Here are a few great options I found on Amazon:
A popsocket or phone grip
I picked up a simple black phone grip, but you can use any basic popsocket or phone grip! It doesn’t really matter what color you pick because it will get covered up.
AGATE CRYSTAL SLICES
I found an inexpensive pack of 12 polished agate slices. These little geode cards come in a variety of colors. If you know what color you want, you can buy just one color. If you want to make a few different color combinations, a variety pack is a great way to go.
These also make great gifts (whether it’s for the holidays or a special occasion), so if you get a multi-pack I definitely recommend making a few for your friends too!
OTHER SUPPLIES YOU NEED
You’ll need to pick up a gold paint pen or metallic gold paint.
For an adhesive, I like using double stick craft tape. Mounting foam tape is my favorite because it’s really sturdy. Normally I recommend using E6000 craft glue, but this project is way easier with tape.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR CRYSTAL PHONE CASE
I think it’s easiest to start by placing your popsocket on your phone case. Pick whatever spot feels most comfortable.
Then, stick it on with your craft tape.
Pick out an agate crystal slice and figure out the placement that looks & feels best.
Place a small piece of craft tape on the top of the popsocket & press the piece of agate down on top.
Pull the phone grip up / pop it up. Then, use your gold paint pen or gold paint to paint the edge of the agate slice. I like adding a little bit of gold to the surface level / edge as well so you can see a little pop of the metallic color.
Let it dry thoroughly before using! If the gold starts to fade or chip, just add another layer!
