DIY Concert Piggy Bank

So your favorite band just announced they’re going on tour. BEST NEWS EVER! The only problem is… your bank account was not prepared for those VIP tickets & t-shirt you have your eye on. The solution? A Concert Bank! It’s not always easy to set money aside, but when it’s this cute, it’s easy to throw your change and extra bucks in!

DIY Concert Piggy Bank

This DIY Piggy Bank is super easy to make! After the concert, you can also use it to display pictures, your concert tickets & memories! You can make it for anything you’re saving up for. A big trip, that purse you’ve had your eye on… whatever you’re saving for!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Shadow Box Picture Frame: I recommend getting a top loading one if you can find it. If not, you can drill a hole in the top. I got mine on sale at the craft store, but there are a ton of options on Amazon too.
  • Background Photo: I used black glitter paper, but you can use whatever you want. You could use photos of friends, album artwork, pictures of a place you want to visit, patterned paper, etc.
  • Paint Marker: I used a white paint pen, but you can use any color. I recommend using a color that pops in front of your background photo.
  • Printed quote or lyric (on standard printer paper).
  • Artificial Flowers: I used black flowers, you can use any color you like.
  • Hot Glue & Glue Gun
  • Dremel tool or similar if you need to drill holes

How to Make A Shadow Box Piggy Bank:

Step One

The first thing you need to do is print out a quote or lyric to use on your shadow box. If you have a concert in mind, you can use a lyric from the band. Or you can just write “Concert Fund”. Whatever you want. If you’re using the piggy bank for a trip or other adventure, use something that describes your goal. Use a font you like the style of. You can find a ton of cool free fonts by searching google. Figure out the size you want it and print it centered on standard printer paper. You may want to print a few different variations, just to test the sizing.

Step Two

Take your background paper and cut it to fit the shadow box. If you want to use multiple photos, I recommend making a collage first on the paper and then gluing it on. I measured my shadow box and cut a rectangle in the same size. Using your glue gun, carefully stick it to the back of the box.

Step Three

Depending on the type of shadow box you chose, open it or slip the printed quote inside. I taped mine to the back of the glass. Then, using your paint pen carefully trace the words. This is an easy way to make it look like you know how to do calligraphy or how to write in fun fonts! You may need to do a few coats. If you mess up, don’t worry. Just wipe it off before it dries!

Step Four

As the text is drying. Trim some of the artificial flowers and leaves. Using your glue gun, glue them onto the corners, or cover the whole thing! It will dry pretty quickly. If you mess up, it’s not a big deal, you can pull them off.

Step Five

If the shadow box you got doesn’t have a hole in the top already or slide open, you can drill a small hole in the top with your Dremel. The hole makes it easier to slip money and coins in.

Voila! Now, throw your spare cash and change in! You’ll be concert ready in no time. After the show, you can open it back up and arrange some photos, concert tickets or souvenirs in the shadow box to remember the show!
