holiday decorating: Chic Home Halloween Decor

Chic & Creepy Halloween Decor + Erin Aschow + Ice Cream & Neon DreamsEvery year we decorate our house for Halloween. We always go all out because it’s also my birthday month! Not only does decorating help me get in the Halloween spirit, but it makes me excited to celebrate the countdown until my birthday!

Since my birthday is a few days before Halloween, we always have a big party that has some sort of Halloween theme! This year, I have a VERY special surprise I’m cooking up for all of you guys and my friends who are coming to celebrate my birthday. So I kept the decorations fairly simple until I transform our house into an epic, magical party!

How to Transform Your space with Chic home Halloween Decor

Sometimes even the simplest decor items can totally transform a room. A lot of our home decor can kind of pass of as Halloween decor because we love black and metallic accents and have a ton of fun skulls hidden around the house. Since Tony & I spend most of our time in the living room, eating dinner & watching movies, I put most of the decorations there. The rest of the house has some random accents and subtly creepy items.

I get a ton of my items from Home Goods & TJ Maxx, so unfortunately I can’t link everything. But I also love finding stuff at Target! Quick money saving tip: shop for Halloween decor AFTER Halloween and stock up for next year! Target puts all of it’s decor on sale right after Halloween!

Pick a Color Scheme for Your Decor

Pick a Color Scheme for Your Decor

Just like any decorating, I recommend sticking with a color scheme or palette. I like sticking with blacks & whites and then using metallic items for accents. Sometimes we throw in a dark green item to give the room a little life. In general, I recommend picking a couple of colors that you really like and trying to stick with them. That will help keep your room from feeling overwhelming or the decor from looking cheesy.

Instead of scattering random things in different corners of the house, try focusing on one area. For instance, I love adding a ton of decorations and layers to our coffee table. I also like creating little nooks that have a few different items and a ton of spooky cheese cloth. Cheese cloth is the sheer black fabric you see all over my house!

Lighting is also key! I picked up a ton of orange Christmas tree style lights to intertwine in some of our palm trees and line the banister of our stairs with. I also wrapped the logs in our fireplace with twinkle lights so that it always looks like it’s glowing. Candles are another great option for making any room look warm & cozy.

Layering cheese cloth and lights also adds a really creepy, yet chic effect. You can use the combo in alcoves, on tables, across windows or mirrors, etc.

I also like adding random skeletons to random parts of the house. Instead of just putting them out, I like to hide them in plant and other fun spots!
