Cheap, Chic & Easy! DIY Crop Top – Using Old Leggings
Late last night I decided to start cleaning out my closet. This was right after I made some Ramen Pad Thai… and I was feeling energized. I realized I have WAY TOO MANY clothes. One of my main addictions are leggings. I counted 28 pairs. I decided there’s no need to have more than 14 pairs. That’s two a day, which is reasonable!
So… what to do with all of my leftover legging? A lot of them are pretty funky and have weird designs. Case in point: the H&M Leopard print leggings I got for an 80s theme party a while back.
After some Pinterest browsing (p.s. be sure to follow Ice Cream and Neon Dreams on Pinterest), I stumbled upon the concept of a DIY Crop Top by The Notorious K.I.A. Gotta give credit where credit is due… I did not come up with this idea! The greatest part… you only need scissors! No sewing needed! As my grandma would say… Easy peasy lemon squeezy! So you basically get to revamp your wardrobe at no cost in about 2 minutes!
Alright… so here’s my spin on it!
Here’s what you’ll need:
– A pair of leggings
– Scissors
Step One: Lay the your leggings out. Yea… it’s that simple.
Step Two: Fold your leggings in half. Now the thinking begins… how long do you want the sleeves? If you want a long sleeved crop top, don’t cut anything. If you want a 3/4 length sleeve, you’re going to cut around the calf. If you want a 1/4 length sleeve, cut above the knee, etc. Cut straight across. By folding in half, you’re making sure that the sleeves are the same length
Step Three: Open the leggings back up. This is when you’re cutting the neck opening. It looks tricky, but it’s actually really simple. Because the leggings are stretchy, you won’t see any jagged edges once they’re cut. The smaller the hole, the higher the neckline. The bigger the hole you cut, the lower cut it will be. I measure about the length of my pinky. You’re basically cutting a half circle on each side.
Step Four: That’s it! Put it on! If you don’t like the length of the sleeves or the neck opening, take it off and fix it!
