If you were following me last week on Instagram, you probably saw that we were on vacation and got caught up in a tropical storm in Mexico! Even though the weather got a little crazy, we had the most amazing trip! Tony and I decided to take an adult’s only (sorry Doug) trip together to mark our annual summer tradition of going to Cabo! We love heading down to Cabo because it’s such a quick and easy, direct flight. Not to mention it’s beautiful, relaxing and filled with amazing food & drinks!

Tips ForΒ Traveling to Cabo

One of my favorite new travel hacks is using a site called Next Vacay. Basically, you tell themΒ which airport is closest to you and they send you emails when flights go on sale. It’s a great way to find affordable flights all over the world. We were able to book round trip, direct flights on Alaska Airlines out of San Diego for about $200 each! It’s really cool because they send you emails of super cheap flights to random places, which can also inspire you to check out new cities.

When you fly into the Cabo San Lucas Airport, there are a few things to keep in mind. When you arrive, you’ll have to go through an immigration line. It generally moves pretty quickly even though the line looks long. You’ll need to show your passport, explain why you’re visiting and for how long & give them the immigration form you filled out on the flight. Don’t forget to keep the portion of the immigration form they give back to you! You’ll need it when you leave Mexico. I like to keep it with my passport – or else you’ll have to pay a $40 fine.

One of my biggest tips is to beware of the timeshare salesmen. When you’re leaving customs, you’ll come across a ton of salesmen behind seemingly official looking counters. They’ll most likely try to stop you, either to offer to help find your driver or offer to get you transportation. DO NOT engage. I repeat, DO NOT ENGAGE. Say no thanks & keep walking. Keep going and exit through the doors where your driver or shuttle is waiting. If you stop and talk, you’ll get roped into a long sales pitch and end up having to sit through a timeshare presentation.Β The airport is located about 15 minutes from downtown San Jose del Cabo and about half an hour from downtown Cabo San Lucas.

Before you leave, I recommend swapping out your currency as well. Cabo uses the Peso, but the US dollar is also pretty widely accepted. Depending on the currency exchange rate where your from , it might make sense to swap your currency for Pesos.

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa

We stayed at The Towers at Pueblo Bonito Pacific Golf & Spa Resort. Let me just tell you, it was AMAZING. We stayed for 4 nights, but I easily could have stayed at least a week and been one happy camper. It was by far our favorite hotel we’ve ever stayed at in Mexico. And I’m not just saying that.

From the moment we hopped into our private SUV that took us to the hotel, we felt totally VIP. Our driver greeted us by the outdoor bar (yes there are bars outside of the airport that you can grab a beer or shot of tequila at… yes we had a couple). Then, we took a quick 30 minute drive to the west side of Cabo. Pueblo Bonito is in a really great location, it’s not in the middle of town and it’s not all the way on the Gulf of Mexico. It’s in a perfectly secluded, gated location that makes you feel safe and relaxed.

When we arrived at the hotel, our new best friend Manny met us with drinks. Manny was our butler for the week. No joke, Tony and I had our own butler… so boujie! The Towers is a newly-constructed part of the hotel that’s kind of like it’s own resort. It’s separated from the rest of the hotel, giving you your own dining areas, portion of the hotel & updated rooms. The Pacifica has standard rooms as well, but if you feel like upgrading your experience or celebrating a special occasion, The Towers is the place to be.

The 411 on Our Room

As I mentioned, we had the insanely amazing experience of meeting Manny, our 24/7 personal butler. Every room in The Towers includes a certified butler, who helps with everything from checking in and out of the hotel, arranging dinner reservations and setting up activities to answering questions about the weather and what you should wear to dinner. I will say, it was not only super luxurious and convenient, but also really helpful having him to text with random questions during the storm!

When we got to our room, we had a beautiful cheese plate (they know me so well) and wine waiting for us. The suite had the most beautiful view of the ocean and pools. We even had our own terrace, which was the perfect spot for relaxing with coffee in the morning and catching the sunset at night. The suite had a dining table, as well as living room area with a couch and tv. I have to say, theΒ bed was also one of the most comfortable hotel beds I’ve ever slept in and had a million pillows (my fave).

Food & Drinks

Did I mention the hotel is all inclusive!? YES! That means, the rate you pay includes ALL food & drinks! That’s right, even your beer and cocktails are included!

I was v. excited when I noticed that we not only had a Nespresso machine in our room, but that the fridge was fully stocked with beer, soda & waters. Another awesome feature is that when you stay at the Pacifico, you have access to all of the Pueblo Bonito resorts and their restaurants. Our first night at the resort we went to dinner at LaFrida, a Mexican restaurant at the Sunset Beach resort. The hotels have a shuttle service between each other, so we just hopped on a golf cart for a quick ride to dinner. Pacifico is an adults only resort while the other locations allow children, something to keep in mind when booking! We opted for their tasting menu, which was a really fun way to try a ton of unique dishes. One of the highlights of the experience was their drink cart and mobile bartender. He made literally the best margaritas of all time!

Between all of the hotels you have access to, there are 23 restaurants and 12 bars to choose from. We loved eating at Siempre every morning for breakfast, the buffet had a ton of options to choose from and a great view of the pool and ocean.

Another really cool feature is that the hotel has it’s own garden that it uses to source ingredient for their Peninsula restaurant. They make a ton of classic Baja recipes with modern twists. The location is to die for, we got to eat dinner and sip on cocktails directly on the beach while watching the sunset.

If you’re hanging out by the pool, you don’t even have to get out of the water to grab a drink because they have a swim up bar! We loved having cocktails and nachos by the pool!

The VIP Towers Lounge was an added bonus we had access to by staying in The Towers. Β  You can eat breakfast or lunch, sip on drinks, grab snacks or even watch tv. The service in The VIP Towers Lounge was amazing and we loved hanging out there in the afternoon!

Fun Hotel Activities

You know how I feel about spas… so we opted for massages one of the mornings. The hotel has one of the most beautiful spas and our treatments were next level. It’s definitely my favorite way to unwind and get into relaxing vacation mode.

If you’re a golfer, they also have an amazing golf course next to the resort. Manny told us that most people who visit the resort come for the golf course and that’ it’s fairly well known by vacationers!

As you guys know, we hit some pretty rainy weather. The second day of our trip we found out that Hurricane Bud was headed our way. Luckily it turned into a tropical storm and didn’t damage anything.

We spent the majority of our time before the storm hit by the pool. There are two separate pools that you can lounge by at Pacifica, all with plenty of chairs. If you want to lay by the beach, there are tons of day beds too. It was pretty mellow too, every time we went down there were spots open so we didn’t feel like we had to rush down to hold a spot down.

On the rainy days, we ended up staying in our room for the most part. But snuck down and hung out in the hot tub with some drinks. It was actually really fun & relaxing hanging out in the rain. We were supposed to have a cabana one of the days, but they put everything away because of the storm. I can’t wait to go back again so that we can get the full experience!
