A Tale of 2 Donuts // Donut ‘Bread’ Pudding Recipe

DONUT PUDDING

Donut vs Doughnut.

Technically, the official spelling (according to the dictionary) is doughnut. But as a lazy girl who’s been brainwashed by Dunkin’ Donuts… I always use the shortened ‘American’ spelling.

However you spell it… they’re delicious and today we put them on a pedestal and celebrate! Tons of shops around the country are giving free donuts away in celebration of National Donut Day and I obviously would never pass up the opportunity for free dessert. Really, I justify and food based holiday as an excuse to over consume and put myself into a food coma.

So you go to your favorite Donut shop and stock up on glazed, powdered, old fashioned, cream filled donuts & cronuts. But what happens to all of the sad donuts left behind? What happens to the dozen you forgot about on the counter tomorrow morning? They’re kind of stale and you feel sad, you don’t want to waste them. Do you see where I’m going with this… what should we do with all of the leftover donuts?

Well… when I have leftover bread (that’s slightly stale), I do one of three things: make croutons, bake bread pudding or feed ducks. I don’t know how a Donut Caesar Salad would turn out and I don’t know if sugary glaze is healthy for ducks. So why not make Donut Bread Pudding!?

Technically, you can use any flavor of donut you want. I chose glazed, but I have a feeling chocolate or powdered would be just as delicious. The trick is to use donuts that are slightly stale. The recipe I’m sharing is for 2 people (using 2 Donuts). But it’s super easy to double or triple. Just add 1 Donut per person you’re serving and increase the ingredients accordingly.

So the next time you have to many donuts on your hands (yes it’s possible)… make Donut Pudding!
