DIY Game of Thrones Dragon Eggs

Winter is coming… ok so it’s actually spring. But it’s officially Game of Thrones season.

Who else is a major Game of Thrones fan!? I’m so excited for the final season. We recently binge-rewatched the entire series to get ready for the final few episodes.

My favorite character is the mother of dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen. She’s a badass, dragon riding babe who wants to take over the world. She’s like the OG Beyonce.

Daenerys’ dragon eggs are probably the most iconic prop from the show. Since Easter is coming… get the reference haha… I decided to make my very own dragon easter eggs. But let’s be honest, it doesn’t have to be easter to justify making these eggs.

Throwing Game of Thrones parties is a great way to get all of your friends together. And if you’re throwing a party to watch the finale of the show, you should definitely decorate with a set of your very own dragon eggs. The best part is that it only costs a couple dollars to make them and you can get all of the materials at your local craft store or even the dollar store!

How to Make Your Own DIY Dragon Eggs

This craft project is literally SO EASY. Even if you’re not super crafty, you can whip these dragon eggs up in no time while you’re catching up on old episodes. You only need 3 supplies:

Oh, and you’ll probably want a paint brush of some sort! You can just use an old one though, you’re not doing anything super detailed or intricate. If you don’t have one, just use an old sponge. I also like using ModPodge to seal most of my painted crafts. That way they don’t peel or crack.

There isn’t a whole lot to this tutorial. You basically just stick thumbtacks into the styrofoam egg, overlapping them slightly to make scales. I recommend starting with one thumbtack at the bottom and working your way up.

Once you’ve covered your egg with scales, pick a paint color to cover your egg. I used red, silver & green. But you can use any color you want. I like the metallic paint because it gives it dimension and a little sparkle.

Once you’ve pained the eggs, let them dry. After the paint has dried, you can seal them with ModPodge spray, but it’s totally optional. It basically makes the craft project waterproof and dust/fingerprint resilient

Once they’re dry, you have dragon eggs fit for a Khaleesi!

They’re great for a fun Easter project or just a Game of Thrones super fan!
