5 Fun Tips for Getting Fit & Staying Motivated
I haven’t always been athletic. I was literally the worlds worst volleyball player and could barely dribble the basketball in PE. I grew up doing gymnastics and later joined the diving team in high school, but was never much of a runner or fan of “working out”. It wasn’t until my early 20s that I actually started enjoying going to the gym. It’s my “me time”. Not only does it help keep my anxiety in check, it makes me feel good. But that’s not to say it’s always easy to stay motivated or stay active.
5 Tips To Get Fit & Stay Motivated
There are tons of gyms, workouts, diets & people trying to sell you on “their fix” or method. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter what you do. The most important thing is that you do SOMETHING. Whether it’s going on a walk after dinner every day, joining a gym or bouncing on your trampoline. The biggest factor for me is to get and stay motivated.
Get Some Cute Workout Clothes
I swear to god, as lame as it sounds, having cute new workout clothes is totally motivating. When you like what you’re wearing, you’re more excited to get to the gym! And you don’t have to spend a million dollars. I’m OBSESSED with THESE workout leggings and THIS matching Sports Bra. You know how I love a good matching outfit, so having a full black workout outfit is definitely a good motivator. Another important factor is getting both stylish, comfortable & functional tennis shoes. I recently converted to Adidas and will never go back. I love these white Adidas for training because they’re super cushy & comfortable and look cute even outside of the gym.
Some of my favorite places to find inexpensive workout clothes:
H&M
Forever 21
Missguided
Target
Senita Athletics
Tie Dye Leggings | Snake Print Sports Bra | Black Fishnet Panel Outfit | Lightweight Running Jacket | Cutout Leggings | Strappy Sports Bra
Listen to a Kickass Playlist
Music is key for me. If the music at the gym or a class I’m in sucks, I have zero motivation. I love using Spotify to create playlists and browse other people’s playlists. You can find a ton of awesome mixes for different types of workouts. Here are a few of my recent faves:
REVENGE ROCK WORKOUT
REVENGE CLUB WORKOUT
You can click on the playlist links and use them next time you’re at the gym, go on a run or are trying something new! I love the Rock Playlist for long runs & the Club Playlist for faster paced things like the spin bike or HIIT training. Make sure you get some good headphones. I like these wireless ones so I can keep my phone in my Fit Belt.
Stay Accountable & On Track
I am obsessed with using MyFitnessPal. It’s an awesome FREE app that you can download to track your workouts & meals. It’s cool because you can input an activity or exercise and it tells you how many calories you’ve burned. If you’re trying to meet a goal or lose weight, it’s a great way to start learning how to track your activity & meals. It’s super easy to use and you can search for food at most restaurants and stores.
Try Something New
One of the hardest parts about getting motivated is finding a workout that you like. I am obsessed with Spark Cycle & Orange Theory. But I also recently found something called Class Pass! Basically, it’s a membership that lets you try different gyms and classes around your city. Membership gives you access to a ton of options in your neighborhood like yoga, barre, cycling and boxing. It’s cool because you don’t have to commit to one gym membership. You can get $40 off of your first month on a 5 or 10 class plan by clicking HERE!
Recruit a Friend!
One of my favorite ways to stay motivated is by getting a friend involved. Find a friend who wants to get fit with you and you can help keep each other accountable. If you sign up for a class or schedule a time to go to the gym, you’ll be less likely to bail if one of your friends is counting on you to be there! If you don’t have any gym buddies, going to a class is the best place to make some new friends! I’ve met some awesome new friends, just going to workout! The great thing is that we have one thing in common already – trying to stay active! I really look forward to going to the gym because I know I’ll get to see my new gym friends!
How do you stay motivated and on track with your fitness goals?
