Greets from freezing Arizona! We took a quick little trip to Scottsdale this past week and boy oh boy was it cold! I knew the desert got chilly, but I was not expecting rain and freezing days!
We were trying to find somewhere fun to get away that wasn’t too far from home. Since we only had a couple of days before we had to get back, I started searching for spots that were a quick flight. We tossed around San Francisco, Las Vegas & Seattle… but we end up going to all of those cities pretty frequently because of tour routings.
Both of us have been to Arizona, but mainly in the summer. I stumbled upon Scottsdale when I was pinning (duh, gotta get on those Pinterest dream travel boards). I didn’t realize it was only 20 minutes from Phoenix. The flight is also only an hour! Perfect location for a quick trip. The flights on Southwest are also really reasonable if you book out a few weeks in advance. Technically, we could have driven (only about a 5.5 hour drive), but we opted to hop on a plane and get our vacation started sooner.
My favorite thing to do when I get to a hotel is put on the giant robe and slippers. I love the funny hotel slippers & for some reason the whole getup just makes me feel like I’m officially on vacation.
We stayed at the Four Seasons at Troon North and let me tell you… I had no idea how insanely beautiful it was in Scottsdale! The hotel is in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, so there are crazy views from every part of the hotel. Our room was BEAUTIFUL. One: there was a fireplace. When we got to our room, there was a cute little dog bed set up by the fire for Doug. Did I mention we brought Doug with us? Of course, what kind of family vacation would it be without him!? It was so cute that they brought him his own bed, definitely the way to my heart. Speaking of Doug… they also gave him his own little welcome package of biscuits (melting my heart).
The hotel is just far enough away from the city to feel like you’re in a remote location. But still close enough for city views at night time. It’s a quick drive from downtown Scottsdale, which has a ton of great restaurants, shops & museums.
The hotel went above and beyond. I couldn’t believe all of the details they paid attention to. They had the tastiest cold brew waiting for us, which was perfect for an afternoon pick me up after the flight. They also left us cookies and candied expresso beans… right up my alley!
We stopped in at Proof for lunch and it quickly became one of my all time favorite spots. I’m actually pretty bummed we don’t live closer. I would probably make it into one of my regular spots. They had the cutest patio with heaters and views of the desert.
They even knew Doug’s name (details). I loved that everywhere we went at the resort was so dog friendly. Part way through the trip, Doug had the grounds down and even had a chance to do some “off leash” roaming along the paths.
I had the BEST salad at Proof, which i had to take a picture of. They called it the “Chop & Pop” because it came with popcorn on top!! Kind of like a fun crouton! I’ll definitely have to try to work some popcorn into some of my next salad recipes!

The weather was kind of a letdown at first, but it was kind of nice because it forced us to just relax. The main reason we wanted to get away was to just force ourselves to relax a little bit. I actually made a conscious effort to stay off of my phone and leave it in the room. Definitely necessary from time to time.
One of my all time favorite parts of staying at hotels is getting to use the jacuzzi. Liking hot tubs is pretty high up on the list of requirements to dating me, because I would be in it every night if I could. The fact that it was pretty cold and a little rainy made my jacuzzi adventures even better. It’s so much fun getting to watch the rain and sit under it in a giant toasty tub.
We had the most amazing time (so did Doug)! It was the perfect balance of relaxation and exploring. I can’t wait to share more pictures with you guys! What are some of your favorite spots in Arizona?
Another HUGE Thank You to everyone at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale for making our stay so great & memorable!
