How To: Rock A Statement Necklace 4 Ways (Without Looking Like Mr. T)
Here’s the situation: You find something cool and a little outside of your comfort zone when you’re shopping. You want to buy it, it’s calling your name. But you’re not really sure you’d wear it? Maybe you have one outfit that you think it would work with, but how do you really get your money’s worth.
I feel like this happens to me all the time when I’m buying jewelry. I’m all about statement necklaces. It’s the easiest way to take a super low key, causal outfit and turn it up a notch. AKA when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to “adult”, I just throw a chunky necklace on top of a band tee & voila – chic!
I found this super cute Silver Coin Collar Necklace from Harper Trends (remember when I mentioned they do subscription boxes & deliver clothes for you to try on > awesomeness). I love it because it’s not TOO intense. You know how some necklaces look like you’re wearing a chandelier? No thanks. I like to keep it fairly simple.
1. Simple Black Tank Top
The easiest way to spice up a black tank top! I love high neck/muscle tanks. This one has deep cut arm holes so you can see whatever bra/bralette I’m wearing. Another opportunity to get crazy. Lace, straps, neon colors, patters! Go for it.
2. Crop Top & Patterned Shorts
Who else loves that it’s acceptable to wear pajama shorts in public right now? I’m obsessed with lightweight, patterned, high waisted shorts. Draw string? Even better. Throw on a colorful crop top or crop tank & add a statement necklace for extra pop!
3. Band T-Shirt
I love throwing a necklace on with one of my band t-shirts or tanks (I’ve cut the sleeves off of most of them). I love the contrast of fun jewelry & angry writing. You can use any graphic tee or tank, it’s a great way to add some dimension.
4. Patterned Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses are another favorite of mine because it feel like I’m wearing a nightgown. I really like combining the monochromatic silver statement necklace with prints. It’s got a boho – I’m going to a farmer’s market and maybe a festival vibe.
