Dog Friendly Downtown San Diego
Doug is basically my child. Not basically, I consider him my baby. He goes everywhere with me, sleeps next to me, eats next to me. Tony and I are borderline obsessed with him. He even has his own fancy dog couch in our room that he rarely uses. So finding dog friendly spots, especially in San Diego is one of my favorite things to do.
Most of the time, when we’re traveling, Doug comes with. He’s even been to Mexico, twice! We’re huge fans of hotels & restaurants that are dog friendly. I’m especially impressed when they go above and beyond to welcome pups. If a restaurant has a dog menu, there’s no way we’re leaving without ordering Doug a meal.
I’ve been working on rounding up my favorite restaurants, hotels, things to do & bucket list ideas in San Diego. I thought it would be fun to share my favorite dog friendly spots in downtown San Diego!
Dog Friendly Downtown San Diego
Dog Friendly Hotel: The Pendry, San Diego
We’ve spent a ton of time at the restaurants located inside of The Pendry, but only recently got the chance to spend the night.
Pendry San Diego is one of 6 locations under the Pendry family of hotels. All of which are dog friendly, so if you’re traveling to Baltimore, New York, Natirar, Park City or West Hollywood with your furry friend, be sure to book a stay.
It also consistently ranks as one of the top San Diego luxury hotels and is my top pick for places to stay downtown. It’s in a great location, walking distance from Petco Park, the San Diego Convention Center and a ton of awesome bars & restaurants.
The hotel has some of the most aesthetically pleasing decor I’ve ever seen in a hotel. It’s modern, chic, filled with light. So if you’re like me and trying to take pics, it’s perfect. They also give you a super plush dog bed, that actually matches the couch!
The hotel has one of the best rooftop pools in San Diego, a full service spa & gym and 6 onsite restaurants and bars. In addition to it’s dog friendly restaurant (scroll down), they also have one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego, Provisional. In case you didn’t know, Pendry San Diego is home to the first Moët & Chandon Champagne Vending Machine in Southern California. You can grab a few gold coins and treat yourself to a miniature bottle of champagne to celebrate!
Dog Friendly Restaurant: Nason’s Beer Hall
Attached to the Pendry, Nason’s Beer Hall is a fun, casual option for lunch, dinner or drinks. I love their interpretation of a modern-day beer hall and sports bar. I would call it an elevated classic, because they have most of your standard bar orders with a gourmet twist.
From their home made pretzel with lager cheese to their pork shoulder totchos (that’s right, tater tots covered with pork, beer cheese & bacon), all of their menu items are a hit.
The best part is that their patio is dog friendly! You can grab a beer – they have 24 on tap, snacks & treats for your pup!
Dog Friendly Restaurant: Currant American Brasserie
One of my all time favorite brunch spots, Currant American Brasserie transports me all the way to New Orleans. The best beignets you can find outside of New Orleans. The lemon curd & bacon maple pecan dipping sauces are to die for.
They also have a pet friendly patio, featuring a pet menu complete with Pupperoni Pizza, Hamburger & Fries, Bone Appetite Bones and Peanut Butter and Bacon Ice Cream!
Dog Friendly Restaurant: The Quartyard
The Quartyard is San Diego’s only outdoor Beer Garden. They also have a full service bar, a sausage restaurant, food trucks, a coffee shop, an off the leash dog park, and a stage that regularly features bands.
One of the coolest things about the Quartyard is that it was transformed using shipping containers. it’s the perfect place to go when you want to enjoy drinks and food with your dog and let it play with other pups. There’s even a yard for the dogs to play off leash while you sip on drinks.
I recommend stopping by for happy hour, from 3 – 6, Monday through Thursday. You can get $2 Off All Beers, $5 Beer on a Budget, $7 Mule or Margarita and $2 Off All Bite Items on the Menu!
Dog Friendly Activity: Petco Park
Did you know Petco Park, aka the Padre’s Stadium is dog friendly!? Petco Park now has suite seating for dogs and their owners!
The Backyard suites cost $100 and include 4 human seats and 2 pet seats. Perfect for a double date for you and your friend’s pup. The suites are located in Left Field near the Pet Relief Area (aka doggy bathrooms) and have umbrellas to keep you and your pooch from overheating. The seats also have in-seat menu service for food & drinks so you don’t have to worry about roaming the park.
Whether you’re a San Diego native or visiting from out of town with you dog, it’s a great activity the whole family can attend. I can’t wait to bring Doug to his first game this summer!
